Seafoaming my '95 Grand Am

I have a 1995 Grand Am 4 cyclinder, 2.3L and just wondering which vacuum hose is the best to use to suck Seafoam through? I've done a lot of searching and can't come up with a definitive answer. Here is a pic of the engine

Thanks -- Shane

Re: Seafoaming my '95 Grand Am

Probably any would be just as bad.

From what I just read about it, it's a good way to kill your engine.

If you are in canada or in the USA, the fuel already contain enought cleaning agent that should prevent any significant accumulation of junk in the fuel passages (including injectors).

Your oil contain enought additive. Adding any additive can/will upset the balance and can cause chemical reactions, causing issues.

Sludge removal from crank case is DANGEROUS: it tend to be then moving with the oil, causing it to block smaller passages, killing your engine.

Let's see the claims:
Stabilizing Fuel
The fuel already contain stabilisers. Unless your gas is very old (many months, like a year), then you do not need any stabiliser.

Lubricating Upper Cylinders
OK, this one is a toughter one, but all parts that need to be lubrificated already is.

Controlling Moisture Buildup in Fuel
Do you regularly fuel up your car? if so there won't be build up. Beside, if you keep your tank mostly full it will prevent build up. Which is also why here in canada they say to keep your tank full in winter: it help prevent humid air from getting in the tank, causing condensation.

Cleaning Deposits - Carburated Engines
Non-applicable, see next one

Cleaning Deposits - Fuel Injected Engines
The fuel already contain cleaning agent as required by the DOT

Quiet noisy lifters- hydraulic tensioner
How can they do this? Noisy hydraulic lifter is a mechanical issue, for some reason the oil get out of the lifter for whatever reason and get noisy until they get full again. Those that are constantly noisy is often damaged or need adjustement. If it succede to quiet them... I'ld be worried.

Cleaning Fuel Injectors or Carburetor Jets
See the one from the deposit...

Cleaning Engine Sludge From the Crank Case
Sludge is not an issue. Yes there is some, but the engine is made so it stay there. Having it move around can and will cause issues as then it will go throught the pump and get into the smaller passages and clog them, starving your important parts from it's precious oil.

A note about octane booster and MPG increase stuff: higher octane do nothing to your engine unless you have some engine which adapt the timing based on the detected octane level. Those are on more sportive car that say to use premium fuel. If it say to use regular gasoline, all what the octane booster do is lower the MPG since the stuff don't have as much energy as the fuel, and also cause it to burn not as good. As for the MPG booster.... how to say it... hmm... well... to keep it simple... it's... A SCAM! pure lie!

Thanks for the advice! She is already pretty old and I was worried I would be doing more damage than good!

Re: Seafoaming my '95 Grand Am

not all gasoline's are created equal! And Not all have cleaners/additives that are supposed to clean your engines fuel system. thats why they sell stuff to clean your fuel system. If gasoline had all that no one would be having issues with clogged injectors.

Also Phantom, your octane theory is not all right.
I agree If you Dont have performance parts on your engine you wont get a lot of benefit from using it.
But you will notice a mpg gain and your engine will run better/smoother with higher octane.

Ive been using seafoam for several yrs in all my vehicles gas tanks. And since then I have not had 1 misfire or rough/bad idling situation that was fuel related!

I also use midgrade fuel and I get around 5 mpg more when using this compared to regular 85/87 octane. And even when i use the premium i get more mpg gains, and more mph.

What it boils down to is, is it worth that extra .10-.30 cents on a gal of mid or premium?

For me, yes. It has kept all my autos running tip top, and Im getting great mpg and performance!

Just my

The low grade often contain ethanol now, which the higher grade do not contain... which might be the mpg increase... I noticed a drop in mpg when they started to put ethanol in the gas here...

As for the additive, the DOT mandate it.

Re: Seafoaming my '95 Grand Am

some newer cars do not like ethanol!! and all pumps should say whether it contains ethanol.

DOT does mandate additives but every company uses a different method.
I really like the BP's Invigorate, dont know how they got nitrogen in their tho...
