Street Legal Turbo Kits

Hi,

I was wondering how good some of these street legal turbo kits are. Greddy & Edelbrock both offer street legal turbo kits and i'm considering buying one of them. They are both upgradeable to bigger turbos, which would probably do away with the street legalness. I just need something that could get me into the 200+ hp range. It would be nice to have a car that's fast and not have to worry about smog and cops. I plan to use as many CARB approved mods as possible.

Here's the deal with turbo kits. They dont make a legal one for any motor in a stock civic 88-91. The only way you can get away with a legal turbo is do a 92-up motor swap and have to ref. appove it. Then once the motor swap is complete it will be considered a 92-up (what ever year car swap comes from) car as far as smog requirments go. So then you can get a Greddy or Edelbrock turbo and it would be street legal.
I have done lots of research and what Im saying is not what I think it is what is legal.

Re: Street Legal Turbo Kits

Or you could put a 92+ civic turbo kit on your 88-91 civic and it should be smog legal. But sorry cant really help you according to ca smog requirements.

That's all good because I have already purchased a D16Z6 and I plan to swap it into my car. My question was really about how well these turbos perform compared to other turbos. The Greddy kit comes with a Mitsubishi TD04 which I haven't heard much about, but if I get that kit, I could possibly upgrade to a T78 down the road because they sell upgrade kits too. The Edelbrock kit comes with a T20, T25, or a T25BB. These turbos I have heard a little bit about. So, basically what it comes down to is the performance of the kits compared to the other non-streetable kits.

Re: Street Legal Turbo Kits

Really for the money the greddy turbo is the best of these I feel. Really the TD04 should be all you need at a max of 15psi you really dont want to go with much more. At 11psi on a d16z6 built well you will be looking to race turbo'd porshe's. About 12.2's in the 1/4 mile. Remind you no interior, drags, and a good driver
