93' S-10 Blazer 4.3 No start.

Hi everyone im new here. I have a 93 blazer 4.3 vortec that wont start. I was driving and it started stumbling as i gave it throttle. It started getting worse to the point where if i gave it any throttle it would die then become very hard to start. Finally its so bad now to where it wont start at all. It turns over fine but every now and then while turning it over it will backfire then put an enormus amount of load on the starter causing the battery to die. Im not sure where to start with this problem. The person I bought it from changed the EGR valve and said he didnt have this problem before he replaced it. He told me I may want to try new plugs/wires etc.. Has anyone here had a problem like this?

New plugs and wires can never hurt. As far as plugs, I would put either AC Delco or NGK plugs in it. For wires, I would go with Accel(If you don't mind spending a little bit extra). You may also look at the catalytic converter. It may be plugged up. When that happens, it greatly restricts the flow of your exhaust gases which would cause your backfire. An easy, cheap fix for the catalytic is to remove it from the exhaust, punch out the material inside and reinstall it. Not necessarily legal in some places, but no one would know unless they took it apart and checked it or tested your exhaust gases at the tailpipe. Don't do this if a lemon law is enforced where you live. Also, check your throttle body to make sure that it is clean . If it is dirty, you can buy some throttle body/carburetor cleaner from your local parts store for about $5 at the most. Spray the cleaner inside the bore of the TB and scrub with a soft-briseled brush(an old toothbrush is perfect). Wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth. If the engine starts after this, it will run rough for a little bit until the cleaner is burned up and out of the engine. If you have access to the right tools, do a compression test. I'm leaning towards the catalytic being clogged based on what you said about the enormous load on the starter. As the engine is turning over, it's building up exhaust gases. When those exhaust gases build up, you get a lot of back pressure and that causes it to backfire and also your starter has to work harder to turn the engine over because of the pressure build-up inside the engine from the exhaust gases. By the way, before you change your plugs, pull a couple out and check for fouling. Make sure they aren't dampened with gasoline. This would indicate bad rings(totally separate from your problem, just a suggestion). I hope some of this helps you. Sorry it's so long. Good luck

93 blazer 4.3l Vortec - Just changed the fuel pump in the tank along with the sending

unit in the tank. Cost 714.00 total w/parts. Yes, this is a boat load of money. Not an easy job. Drop the tank and such.

Re: 93' S-10 Blazer 4.3 No start.

Try changing the fuel filter first if no good try a fuel pressure test it may be the fuel pump
i dont think they cost 714.00 i paid 40 buck for mine
before you pull the pump out of tank drop the tank enough to get to the plug and inspect the wires they tend to go bad where they go into the plug socket. can you hear the pump run?? turn key on and off and listen for it there should be a 3 second prime. listen at the gas cap if you cant hear it, have someone work the key for you. but do the key thing first

ok here is where i am at

I changed the plugs/egr valve/wires/started useing the most expensive gas lol and used injector cleaner and water remover. I took the truck to a garage and the flap in where my air filter was stuck closed so we opened in and unpluged the sensor that tells it to open but that still did not work. The mechanic said that he is 99.9% sure it is the fuel pump. I will pick one up and install it and lett you guys know if it worked or not. I got a price on a great after market pump for $90.00 CANADIAN and it is to be one of the best pumps out there for this truck. I will keep in touch! laterz!!!!

From the beggining it sounded like a fuel pump.

You bought more then the fuel pump, you also purchased the sending unit. That part costs $$$

Drumer48 I hope that wasn't $714USD or you got raped. I had a new pump, sending unit and tank installed for just under $500 CAN last summer. That's about $350US.
