Valve Cover removal / Spark plug and wires???

What is the proper procedure to remove the valve covers on a 95 Aurora. I have all the bolts removed from the front cover, I haven't even touched the rear yet. The front is stuck on some shaft going through it that is attached to a pully by the water pump. Do I have to remove this pully to slide the cover off the shaft or is there another procedure. If so how do I do it. I ordered the maunals from Helm INC.. I am awaiting there arrival. Also what is the easiest way to access the rear valve cover for gasket replacement and for spark plug and wire replacement. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Actually, I don't have a FSM and have no answer for you. I was just joking.

Not that it matters since you want to replace the valve cover gasket, but you don't have to take them off to change the plugs and wires. You just need to remove the coils off the back of the engine compartment to get at the rear plugs and wires. There are 4 screws holding them on, not just the 2 easily visible -or so I understand. I was a lazy bastard and had a mechanic do mine since I wasn't sure I didn't have a bad coil also.

From what I understand the pulley has to come off. Then pop the front cover loose. Lift the cover up to a 10 degree angle on the side where the oil fill is and slide it over the shaft. I think your going to need a puller to remove the pulley.

Re: Valve Cover removal / Spark plug and wires???

I don't know about the valve covers, but in reference to changing plugs and wires:

I just removed the decorative plastic cover on the engine and the distributor housing (which required unplugging it) and I was able to reach the rear spark plugs. It was very tight and it took a lot of patience but I was able to do it within 2 hours. The OE plugs were VERY tight but I was able to change them out successfully. Along with the new wires. A lot of the work just takes patience and care.

I don't really know if that helps you at all but that is my only experience with it.

Were the v/c gaskets leaking? That's pretty rare from what I've heard.
