2000 GMC Jimmy stalling
Hey guys looking for some input. Had a problem with my Jimmy
starting 1 month ago. Had to be jump started a number of times. So I got a new battery put in under warranty and now the warranty is expired. But between that time I've done a 50,000 km service. Oil change, trans service, changed fuel filter and shampooed the engine. What's happening now is that the engine stalls hot or cold and intermittantly. Accelerating, coasting or at idle. When it stalls it just dies and then restarts. It doesn't run rough at all. At one time it would not start for almost 5 minutes. I've scanned it and no trouble codes. Tried replacing the jobber fuel filter with a GM filter. No luck. Tried even blowing down the engine compartment thinking water on the connectors and dist. cap. I've talked to the Dealer and no luck, they said never had this come across. They talked about ignition switch but I do get all the dash lights to light up when the problem occurs. They also said the cam or crank sensor but it would've of logged a code. Now my next test would be leaving a fuel guage hooked up and waiting for it to stall. I was hoping to get more info on other GMC Jimmy owners if they had a problem somewhat similiar and what their fixes were. |

Well here's an update and maybe hope it helps others.
I finally did get it to stall with the fuel guage hooked up. Pressure dropped from 54 psi down to about 40 psi. I tried swapping fuel pump relay with the horn which were the same part number and no luck. So I had a test light hooked up to the test port going to the fuel pump in the relay box beside the fuel pump relay. Off driving I go and got it to stall, light stayed on for about 5 seconds after it stall and pressure went down to 40 psi again. So computer, sensors and fuel relay good. I talked to the dealer and they say the injector poppets need exactly 49 psi to make them open, thus causing the fuel to shut off. Turns out to be the Fuel pump. So off to the dealer to get Goodwill on the fuel pump ($700 cdn) Hope this fixes it. |

Re: 2000 GMC Jimmy stalling
i m sure that you did but just in case did you check for votalge drop during or after the stall. if the voltage to the fuel pump are inconsistand or if there is a bad ground it could cause that problem. just a thought

Re: 2000 GMC Jimmy stalling
So last night it finally packed it in. The fuel pump didn't want to
go at all. It was on its' final legacy. Didn't start and no humming noise. I bitched at the GM dealer and got a new fuel pump under Goodwill. Had to have the truck towed and just got it back tonight. And so far so good, no problems. Will keep u guys updated if anything else does happen. But I think we'll end it here. |
