Headlight Door Problems

The motor on my pass. side headlight keeps running for a few seconds after the headlight closes. Also the headlight doors open and close each time I press any button on my remote, but they don't come on.This just started happening.Any help or suggestions on probable causes?

Re: Headlight Door Problems

My TA did that and my Firebird does it!! Omm, Its a VERY common thing with the Birds...just like the Steering Wheel Controls going out! Its a computer problem...about the open / close with the remote, but the other one is that the light doors motor is not recognizing that the door is shut and it really is so it runs and then gives up...i know its LOUD...i use to run from my car so no1 would know my car made that noise! Try talking to a Pontiac Specialist at a local dealer first, then take it somewhere maybe...its no biggie!

Did you get yours fixed? If so what did you have to do to stop the problems from happening? Will replacing the headlight motor stop it from running? How do I fix the computer problem with the light doors opening and closing?I really can't afford to take it to a dealer ,so I'm looking for a solution I can do myself. Thanks for the info...very much!!

Re: Headlight Door Problems

Okay, my 97 TA did the same thing i was directed to a website that sells brass gears that replaces the old plastic gears. I did it and everything was fixed and my headlight even quit popping up like you described. I cant remember the website but there are several posts that describe the same thing if you read through them you will find the website. If i remember right they were around $70 for the gears. A lot cheaper than buying a motor like the pontiac dealership will recomend

Re: Headlight Door Problems

I did take mine to a dealer and yes the sound stopped...but you can fix it yourself just reasearch it and learn how to change them and where to buy them...it should fix the problem..if you want call a dealer first and talk to someone in service! I dont know how you could fix the comp. prob. yourself??!!? Sorry! But the motor should fix the noise prob., who knows maybe it will fix the pop up pop down prob.?!?

Heres the site http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/ to fix it free or buy the metal gears. Also my driver side was the one that made the noise so it doesn't happen all the time on the passengers one.

I haven't changed mine I just let it make the noise but it should be kind of easy just takes kind of a while to take out all the screws from the light.

I bought the gear from the website listed above, and it fixed all the problems I was having. It was an easy and cheap fix and wasn't hard at all to remove and replace the motor or the gear.ANYONE having this problem needs to replace those crappy plastic gears and everything will work fine. Thanks for all the help, and look Brent up at the website and fix that cheap Pontiac crap!! i had the same thing happen to me. the first time (before i knew about the gear fix), i took it to the dealer....big mistake...they have to replace the entire headlight motor which, of course, is very expensive. then a few years later, it started messing up again. this time i did my research on the net and found the site listed above. i replaced the gear, and haven't had any problems since...it's definately the way to go for the headlight fix.
