Hey people,
My dad always talked about his old camaro that he bought when he was in high school. I always thought he said it was a 69 SS with hideaway head lights, but now im not sure. Could it have been 67? Anyway, i was hoping someone could tell me what trim level and year this would be... he said it had a stock 350 in it, and i was at a bar with him in Iowa when he got in an arguement with a junk yard guy saying that there was a stock 350 that year, but the junk yard guy insisted that there wasnt. They went to the yard the next day and looked it up in the books, and in fact they had made it that year. He said it also had hideaway headlights, and it was gold...im not sure if the color helps or not, maybe they only made them in that color for cetain years. Anyway, if someone could give me an idea on trim levels and years, that would fit my description of a late 60's model camaro, i would really appreciate it. I want to pick one up for him, so he can work on it over time in his garage, i just know he would love that. Thanks Joel |

It actually came out in 67, the first year for the Camaro.
68 Camaros were the ones with the flip down headlights. Look here to verify the existance of 67 RS/SS, 68 RS/SS, 68 SS cars, as well as several other examples.... http://www.camarogenerations.com/memberprofiles.html

correction
sorry guys gotta correct myself...i know that the ss came out in 67...anywho the 350 did come stock with the ss in 69 and the hideaway lights were an option. also two tone paint was an option and it was also the first year that the factory cowl induction could be ordered as well as the four wheel disk brakes...there were also numerous other cues carried over from the 68s and some other interior options. hope thats what you want

well, i just talked to him today, he was out in Colorado Elk hunting, and just got back.
He says it was a 67 Camaro, with hideaway headlights, had SS badges on it, and had a stock 350 in it. It was gold in color. Im confused, what does it mean when they say rs/ss? |

They were different packages that you could order with your car...

I understand that theres a difference between the RS (Rally Sport), and the SS (Super Sport), what i was asking was that i see alot of older models listed for sale and they have a description like this.
67 Camaro RS/SS etc..... |

The RS package had to do with the appearance I believe, ie. hideaway headlights and stripe options. The SS was a designation given for the 350 and 396 cars.

The hide-away headlamps were part of the RS package from 67-69, along with the "deluxe interior" that used different door panels and hounds-tooth seat fabric. The SS option has always been the "hot-rod" option that usually included a top-line engine (small or big block), tachometer and full gauges, F-41 sport suspension, better brakes, better springs and swaybars. These option packages could be ordered together or separately, but when combined the SS emblems were the only ones used. The 350 debuted in the 1967 Camaro and was always available as a Camaro option except from 1982-1986 (305) and the LS1 years,
