Question Interior light/ door ajar light problem

I have a 2000 T & C LXI. It has a problem that just started. The "door ajar" light on the dash stays lit, and the interior lights stay lit even with the doors closed. But...if you put into reverse, the lights and door ajar lights go out. Put the vehical back into drive, park, or nuetral, the lights come on and the door ajar light comes on. Also, the problem is intermittent. Shutting, opening, and re-shutting the doors and tail gate doesn't do a thing. Has anyone ever heard of this weird problem before. My wife drives it, and she is about to have a stroke...which means I'm going to have a stroke...! Please help, or give me any pointers to try.
Thanks in advance!
