SKYLINE ENGINE into an MR2
Does anyone know if it is at all possible to put a Skyline engine(particularly one from the R33 models) into a Toyota MR2(Mk2 version, early 90's). If thats not possible , then what kind of high performance engine would you suggest I put into. I want to know ASAP b/c the MR2 that I am purchasing shows significant levels of wear and corrosion, so i just wanted to replace the engine in it's entirety.

All the skyline engines(R32-34) are basically all the same size, so I don't get why you say R33 specifically.
Why don't you just go with other toyota engines to swap? I would think it'd be much easier to do that instead of swapping engines from other manufacturers.. perhaps supra engine? They're easier to get than skyline engines... |

i doubt it will fit without extensive modifications to the engine bay....inline 6 engines are notoriously long.....
if you want a swap get the SCC a few months back that showed how to do an MR2 engine swap with a 3.0 toyota V6......

money talks bullshit walks. plan on having a widebody kit that extends your car about another 2 ft. all new suspension. finding a way to get the weight from not making you do wheelies while driving down the street and youd be alright

you won't be able to fit that engine without doing some serious body modifications (ie, extending the frame). it's just too long. (think Sard MC8-R)
check the MR2 board (www.board.mr2faq.com) and go to the MKII hybrid section. there are plenty of folks swapping V6's (1mz-fe, i think is the engine code). of course, the 3s-gte has been proven capable of 500+ rwhp. one guy ('LB' on the board) is in the 600whp range; and another (troy truglio) is at 479whp on 23psi and will be competing in the next SCC's ultimate street car challenge.

Simply not do-able apparently the 3SGTE was a bit of a tight squeeze lengthwise (Won't confirm nor deny) so the RB26DETT In-line 6'd be FAR too long and would require some SERIOUS frame mods to put it in- by then the price'd be astronomical and not worth it- don't even get me started on the transmission.
Your best bet'd be to get a rear clip from a JDM MR2 GTS- with a 3SGTE the engines are capable of 600+ rwhp and there is a huge aftermarket (including parts from places like NZ/Australia, Europe and Japan) if you look. Plus the fact that it's a rear clip means you are all set to go

It is probably possible to fit a skyline engine into a Toyota MR2, but you probably must modify the torpedowall and remove the radiators from the front and then try to make the gears for generator and so on as compact as possible.
