Lancia 037 with a big difference
![]() This is my new project. I have been inspired by the likes of Propeller, Scratch Built, Canister and others to do this. I like building old rally cars but wanted to do something different and in a big scale. You can get a Lancia Stratos in 1/12th but I did not want to do one of those. So I started thinking about Tamiyas 1/10th scale 037 remote control car. I won a car body on Japanese EBay with a decal sheet. I will then build everthing that goes inside it. Then started to get info together (see photo) I got books, drawings, a copy of the Homologation Papers and lots of photos. This is one of the great things about the internet, you can find so much info. Anyway my plan is to build a 1/10th scale Lancia 037 with opening rear, drivers door and the front to come off. I will be using plastic, resin, fibre glass and vacuum forming parts to build it, will also be having some photo etched parts made. I enjoyed building lots of scratch parts for my MK2 Escort so I thought why not. If you see me doing something and you have a better way please say as I’m new to this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I started by filling the holes that should not be there and cutting out the openings in the rear bumper. ![]() I have to cut all the rear panel out next. wish me luck.. Thanks Last edited by puffyrs; 04-03-2011 at 05:30 AM. |

Re: Lancia 037 with a big difference
Good luck on this one. Looking forward to your progress. One thing I wonder about these big projects is what will you do for tires. Are you going to scratch build those also?

Re: Lancia 037 with a big difference
Wow, you really dont realise how big these are untill they're side by side with the 1:24. Definately one of my favourite rallying images is an 037 taking off from a jump with flame spitting from the exhaust. Looking forward to seeing how these goes.

Re: Lancia 037 with a big difference
Excellent! Go for it - I don't think there'll be a lack of encouragement from anyone following your progress. Sounds like you've got some good reference material too, which is half the battle.
This is what I like about scratchbuilding - you're not limited to the 'normal' scales or the 'normal' kits - just get on and build it. Of course, having a bodyshell like this is a big plus point - but I'm assuming you'll find lots of details that need changing and correcting, right? One of these days I'll have to build something with a roof, too... All the best! SB |

Re: Lancia 037 with a big difference
No turning back now.
I would like to cut the front off as well but have to build some support in first. Now I will start to build the floor and door opening.
