96 Z-71 Vent Controls Not Working Properly

My 96 Z-71 has had a vent control problem since I bought it used 4yrs ago. Mind you that the Heat and AC work perfectly it is just where the air is delivered is not. When on Def it comes out the dash and some on the floor. When on the floor some comes out the Def and dash. Its like something is not opening or closing all the way. I am handy with tools and what not but I suck if it is electrical. Anybody have this same problem and have a solution?

Re: 96 Z-71 Vent Controls Not Working Properly

Welcome to AF. Not sure if you have vacuum or electrical controls. Look on the drivers side heat/ac plenum just to the right of the gas pedal. Sometimes the linkage from the Mode actuator comes loose or breaks. Should be 2 separate rods connected to 2 separate arms in the plenum.

Re: 96 Z-71 Vent Controls Not Working Properly

It is electrical. I looked under there and there is a pivot point right next to the (looks like the controller). I followed it up and there is a spring in this part of the arm which leads to another pivot point. This point was crooked and appeared to be out of the socket. I pushed it back in and it feels like it is connected to something heavy. I suspect it is broke inside.
