This is a 2001 model with 115,000 miles, is it likely to be a write off? How do they determine a value if this is the case?

Welcome to AF, sorry to hear about car.
At least the person that hit it was honest enough to get in contact.
What sort of car is it, and is it an auto or manual?
I doubt any damage was done to the drive line.
It's most likely it just flat spotted any tires that did not turn. i.e. those connected to the hand brake, or if the car was in gear or park.
As for writing your car off etc, that is really up to your insurance company and will depend on the cost to repair the car, vs what it would cost to pay out for a write off.
