Some problems with my Lumi
Hi,
I have 2 problems with my Lumina... 1st: The coolant water is leaking, in a period I think 2 month ago complete reservoir is gone. There is nothing in oil so I don't think its leak by cylinder head or intake manifold. The upper is replaced earlier this year after I watched few times that coolant water is gone. I take pictures where I seen coolant water. 2nd: I saw the vacuum line is broken which one is on front of the engine by the fuel rails. One goes to the fuel pressure another throttle body. I don't know if that in context to my fuel usage. |

Re: Some problems with my Lumi
That line is for the evap system, the vapor cannister purge line, shouldn't affect mileage. The coolant loss is probably the lower intake gaskets, tough to accurately diagnose, I just did one like yours in my shop.

Re: Some problems with my Lumi
thx, I replaced the upper intake manifold include gasket before 3 month, but don't think is a problem to replace the lower one too. Then I had luck that the coolant did not go inside the engine.
It's the better way to know the gasket is blown. |

Re: Some problems with my Lumi
the upper intake gasket is completely dry - there is no coolant passages going thru it.
the lower - look for seepage along the "V" on each side of the engine. if the gasket is cracked on the outside only its possible to only get an external leak.... for now. from what i recall there was also an issue with improper factory assembly - either improper torque or no 'loctite' compound used so the intake bolts eventually come loose. my thread on replacing the lower and head gasket is on these forums with pics and narrative.. for those who didnt know, we 'won' the class action suit against chevrolet but the time to collect from that is long gone. I think the lawyers acted poorly in only getting their 'cut' of the money, i think the suit should have made it mandatory for chevy to NOTIFY all owners of this defect. There are still lumi owners who didnt know and will eventually lose their engine when the gasket fails. My lumi is still running SWEEET been nearly a year since I fixed it.
