Porsche 959 Gemballa

Hello,

First off your probably think "what that didn't exist", well I'm kinda building a fantasy car.

My dream is to build all of the Porsche super cars, the 959, the 911 GT1 Straßenversion, and the Carrera GT. I also like the Gemballa cars, except only the Carrerea is a actual Gemballa car, so I'm making up this one.

Its going to be part of a personal group build, I have the transkit for the Tamiya Carrera kit, but the other two I'm just going out on a whim, in theory this is possible Gemballa exited before the 959.

Starting with the 959,to be a Gemballa it needs a huge scoop on the roof, and other tacky looking bolt on's

for more detail I cut off the hood, and scratch built some stuff, the story is that to make the car even better Gemballa removed all the factory Porsche items and rebuilt it more like a race car, its still not finished a few more things need to be buttoned up.

The engine has been left mostly stock, the fuel rails are new and a few photo etched bolts, doesn't matter much Porsche does a good job of hiding the engine. The exhaust system has yet to be added.

so far on the Carrera progress has been slow,I couldn't get the usual transkit from Geronimo so I ended up with this:

Just a word of advise it kinda sucks, nothing fits very well, for now the progress isn't worth showing, just a lot of filler

Well thanks for looking, this is my first W.I.P. on this board so hopefully I didn't mess anything up, sorry if I did, anyways thanks again, and you comments would be appreciated.

is that the A-Modeler transkit ?

I think the original Geronimo kit would have been the better choice

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

Totally agreed with Mike.. shame on you A-Modeler, GW parts rulez!!.. the only problem is .. where to find, i have one at home in a safe box cause.. i think that Geronimo will not produce parts anymore

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

Hello thank you for all the comments.

First off progress on the 959, the front hood area has been finished:

In the interior everything is basic black, all the carpet has been done with flocking, seatbelts have been added and a few extra switches on the dash/centercouncil. The front seats have not yet been added, but there in the works, planning a few modifications to them.

To make the car more “racy” I have added a roll bar, it fallows the B post to kinda hide its self later I’ll paint it black.

Also the hood has been carbon fibered but no pictures yet.

Work has also commenced on the Carrera, first I’m working on the ground effects:
First off the original:

Then replaced:

Only problem is that they don’t fit…. So using a heat gun I bent them back in to shape, then I cut the two sections apart and refit them on to the body
A few of the part where damaged, namely the rear clip and part of the side skirts, I shaped a piece of plastic to replace the damaged area and used filler to smooth it all out, here’s a pic before there all sanded:

Thank you for looking and thanks again for your comments.

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

Hello everyone

The 959 is almost finished, the whole car was painted in white primmer then gloss white, then I use a semi-gloss clear to kinda dull the paint, my goal is to make kinda a street legal rally car. Also the interior is finished sadly I have forgotten to take any pictures before being attached to the body. And way here’s some general pictures.

(the mirrors are only a test fit)

I realize that the finish isn’t exactly the best but there was a contest this weekend that I wanted to take it to so I ended up kinda in a rush.

Thanks for looking guys, and any comments or help is appreciated

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

The detail work you did in the front trunk and engine are nice but i am kind of dissapointed as i was hoping you would do something wild with the body like the thread name suggests.. You know, gemballa style body kit Also the side mirrors... or should i say fender mirrors he-he look weird as they are.. i would leave them on the original place

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

Unfortunately i have to agree with you on the body it needs much more work to be a true gemballa, the mirrors are going to have to stay, there ugly as hell but it kinda works with the gemballa tacky look. I don't think I ever showed this pic:

But I do have a big scoop it just wasn't on in the pictures above. but if you have any idea of body mods they would be helpful it needs ground effects in the front and back of some sort but i'm not sure how they would really fit in to the current body.

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

IMHO the roof scoop is way too much exagerated !! you should give it a better shape, following roof line, because it's totally not aerodynamical like it is.
it's a bit a pain regarding all the excellent work you're doint on details.
I also don't like the side view mirrors on the fenders...

Re: Porsche 959 Gemballa

yea, the roof scoop looks out of place also in my eyes.. it also wouldnīt cool the engine if that is itīs original purpose Well the body is painted so any big body modifications in gemballa style are out of the question (unless you want to strip and repaint it) but you still could fabricate some kind of front spoiler and diffuser, perhapse a wing and add them after.. I also searched on the internet for inspirations and it seems gemballa already customized an 959 porsche although itīs even more ugly than the original
