Cool 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme

I recently inherited my grandmothers 96 cutlass supreme. It was garage kept for years and only has like 38000 miles on it. great vehicle but....a couple of weeks ago I realized my door remote wasn't working and I found a blown fuse in panel. I replaced the fuse and now I can unlock the doors with the remote or using the interior lock switches; however neither the remote nor door switches will lock the doors. I have to manually lock the doors from the inside.

Has anyone else had this issue? Do you think it is rusty mechanism in door panel or master door switch on driver side? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Pull the trim off and see if you get 12v to unlock side of the lock solenoid, this may be what blew the fuse.

Is it safe to say that if I do not have 12V at the switch then the lock relay is bad?

Do you mean 12v at the control switch input or output to the solenoid? BTW, autozone.com, repair guides has a decent body wiring diagram.

Re: 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme

Thanks for your help. Because I my door switches unlock the locks I figure I must have 12V available at the switch already even though I haven't tested yet. Its been raining a lot and work gets in my way to play with my car. Im guessing I should get 12V out of the switch while I press it to lock /unlock....right? that's why I figured it may be the lock relay. I understand there's two relays, one to lock and one to unlock which I read in a previous thread some time back. Whats your thoughts? Do you know where the relays for this vehicle are located? I have the Haynes book on the car and am going to look for it shortly. If you can tell me then I can save some time searching.

Re: 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme

ok...found relay under carpet right under driver door. took relay apart found 2 small transformer looking thingys. One of them had no contact plate left at all and the other had a nice chunky contact. got part numbers off relay casing and bought brand new one online for like $5 total including. plugged it in and success. door locks work perfectly. rock n roll!
