Cool Convert Gen-3 Firebird To Independent Rear End

1982-2002.

Can it be done? My friend wants to keep his rear planted - if you know what I mean! He wants the FRONT of the car to get to his destination first, even if he is leadfooted.

Re: Convert Gen-3 Firebird To Independent Rear End

Stick with the solid rear. Independent rear is better for handling, solid rear tends to be better at launching. Plus, the unibody/subframe construction of those F-bodies is not designed for a stressed third member. You would be placing a ton of torsional load on the rear chassis of a car that is designed to simply suspend weight.
