Question about McLaren F1

I saw two variation of the McLaren F! one with the two side mirror on the top of the car, the other with the two mirror on the side !

which one is the older version By the way so far the only color that has the side mirror on the top is silver, where as the one with the side is black, red, etc !

could anyone confirm this ?

whic is the better car ???

I'm not sure about it...since I don't have access to my library at the moment...but the one with the lower mirrors might be the US-spec version. Note the turn signals mounted in the front.

There weren't too many F1s built...so there weren't too many differences between "early" and "late" models.

I think you're right Hudson, ther were only 64 Road Version built and any other variants would be race models that are fairly different from the Street Version. They started making them in 1993 and production ceased in 1998.

I think the

I think the original F1 could have been the one on the cover of the F1 book !

I much prefer the higher mirror looks. the turning light on the mirror is such good design !

It may have also changed from the "prototype" to the production set. But with such a small run, the prototype may get counted as a production car... Not sure...

Or, perhaps they could do either at the owner's preference. It was tailored to the driver, after all.

i have that book it's awesome! i can do some more research a little later, but its kinda late so i wont do it now. the car on the cover is the "clinic model." i'll look up some more about the clinic model tomorrow, i'm getting tired. silvers2000 got it right about it being a prototype. McLaren made 5 prototypes, XP1, XP2, etc... i'm pretty sure that the clinic model is not considered one of those, but if it is it's probably XP5. the only difference between those cars are the bottom one is a production car while the top is a prototype. that was the very first car that they unveiled to the public. all of the production cars were fairly similar. i saw a pic in the book with a guy who just got one and the mirrors were up high. but i'll look it up some more later.

i forgot about this. the clinic model was a full size clay model. thats what it says in that book shown above. it says it's the same except for the engine bay, but what i dont understand is it shows a picture of the clinic model filling up with gas at a gas station. i dont know if it actually ran or what. those high up mirrors didnt make it into production.

US$1 = 0.69 £

$50 = 34.5 £

Does the "£" go before or after the number?

With all his money > did Bill Gate get a McLaren F1 or does he prefer a stationwagon ?

The Ralph Lauren dude, I heard he's got 2 McLaren for that fact ! while there is only 8 in the U.S

is this fact correct or outdated ?
