Question Celica GTS, worth it?

Hey guys, im about to get a celica GTS with a 6 speed transmission. I dont know if it will be 01, 02, 03 or 04. Are there any differences? im going to teest drive one soon, but are thye worth it? I love the cars and the 6 speed transmission will probably be quick, but I'd like to get soem advice from people who personally own the car. Thanks guys. Ill be getting a new car by the end of net month and the celica is my top choice.

Re: Celica GTS, worth it?

Rev limiter was lowered.

There is also a 00 model.

Price difference between years obviously.

Nice cars. Worth it depends on what you want.

Have you driven the car yet? The 6 sp. is nice, but doesn't really make the car quicker or slower. It's nice however.

Good luck,
Chris

Lightbulb Yes! 6 Speed Worth It!

I have a 2002 GTS 6 Speed. Liquid Silver with Body Kit. My father in law has a five speed and the difference is like night and day. Test Drive them both if you can. That will give you the appreciation of the 6. Also, Definitely go with the GT-S. The VVT-i will make your hair stand up. . . . Definitely that fastest 4 cylinder I ever owned. . . .

Re: Celica GTS, worth it?

lol.. if you say so.. but PLENTY of people prefer the GT over the GTS becuase it's more responsive. And it is. You don't have to wait until 6,000RPM+ to feel something. Plus the GT is more friendly to supercharge or turbocharge.

I'd personally take the GTS, but the GT is better for low rpm response.

They both have VVT-i. The GTS adds lift. (L)

I would agree. . . .

I gotcha. All I know is that I like to be able to beat a Mustang GT (with no prob) and still get 38 mpg. . . . That's a car you just gotta have!

I've only gotten to drive the GT and off the line they're pretty gutless, but when on highways it's much more fun to drive, more responses. The only thing I didn't like was that the wing that looked good (IMO the smaller one looks nicer) made it harder to look out the rear window. But you can easily fix that.

I have a 1986 GTS with the 3SGE engine in it. Does anyone know if it's possible to either put a turbo onto the 3SGE or just swap the engine to the 3SGTE which is stock wiht a turbo and intercooler.

Re: Celica GTS, worth it?

yes it's done.

may be cost effective to swap to 3S-GTE.. your 3S may have higher comp. pistons, and wouldn't be mapped for a turbo... so... you'd need standalone ECU or swap to the appropriate Toyota ECU and be limited...

I can give you all the details you want, just email me if and only if you are serious please.

I would go with an 03 or later (price depending). Any Celica is a great value in my opinion. That is a damn nice 4 cylinder under the hood too, hence the quote above. You get a great reliable car, great gas milage, and it is pretty fast, too. What more could you want?

Re: Celica GTS, worth it?

I have a 2000 GT-S, i have had it for about 6 months, and i love it. Once you feel the lift kick in, you will not think twice about buying it.

Re: Celica GTS, worth it?

It is kinda like VTEC except it pulls much much harder. It is hard to explain how it works, but look it up sometime it is really cool. Also one down side to the GTS is that occasionally the "lift bolts" have to be replaced. ((but only if you use lift a lot))....they are really easy to replace however, all you have to do is remove the valve cover, and they are right there.
