Talking Corvette C6-R White Livery -- Picture intensive

Not a very detailed WIP. Just wanted to show what I have so far. I knew as soon as I saw these decals I had to built it.... Unfortunately, the driver's side red strip was damaged, and I'm waiting a replacement.

Some clear over the kit decals.

Tried adding some detail painting on the molded in parts.

Hideous kit chrome rims were stripped and painted with my favorite "rim mix" of X-10, X-11 and XF-56. The have a perfect sheen on them.

Added some Al foil to cover up a painting accident...

Thanks to enzoenvy's 24 hour build, I felt the need to open up the grill. Takes some time, but I think it will look much better in the end. I also added the cutouts for the tow hooks which I will add at final assembly.

Closeup of the decals. They are quite nice, but the carrier film is HUGE

Quick mockup:

Box shot similar to the SMS detail kit. I'd really love to have those rims (or a suitable replacement) to dress this build up. I can buy a ton of kits for what those rims cost, however...

My assembly line:

One of these is a rebuild from the ALMS car I built. The color was all wrong; I've got special plans for this one.... This is really a great kit. I'm picking up 2 more @ Hobby Lobby (only $8 with the coupon) and will build the red street version along with the badboyvette.com livery. Those custom decals are going to be a bitch, but I have to build it!!!

C+C welcomed!

Re: Corvette C6-R White Livery -- Picture intensive

Yes, please share where you got the decals! You have the #33 livery from Mosport, Ron Fellows home race...would love to get ahold of the #3 Sebring edition one...What white are you using btw? I got Pure White for my R10, but your white looks pretty good...lol

Here my C6R at the moment, I agree, the kit is really great! The only things that bug me are the incorrect wing stand, the position lights, and the ride height. Everything else is great. Im using a gloss yellow I found from Testors, the color is very close to the car color

Great to see your taking up the BBV livery. JHDrew did that, heres the link to his car

If you need any pictures of the Bad Boy car, let me know, I have tons of pictures from the race, had the privledge to see the car up close (and touch it, shhh!).

Um, yeh, I can see why you like the livery - very sharp. Great build too, she'll be a beauty.

Decals from Automania. They are ALPS printed but at the top end of ALPS quality. The entire sheet is the carrier; so the closer you cut to the image the smaller the carrier.

Kurzheck is right: they are from Colin at automania. The decals are very nice and his customer service is outstanding. He replied within a very short time!!! I think they are quite a bargain for $10. I'm also getting the White Lightning livery to add another ALMS to my collection.

The white is Tamiya X-1 shot through an airbrush. I had white automobile primer down as the base. I thinned it pretty heavily and it goes on great. Had I not added decals, almost no polishing would have been needed.

I'm correcting the wing struts on the LeMans version, and have drilled out the position lights on all of them. Not sure what I'll use; maybe a green LED? I've found the ride height to be tolerable. Drilling out the front grill and making sure the oil cooler ducts are molded in as one piece helps as well. I'm using a Krylon safety yellow for that one.

JDrew's thread is what got me started on the Badboyvette livery. Any pictures you have would be great. That is going to be a time consuming decal sheet!!!

Looking VERY impressive.
Not quite a fan of this car, but your build looks really superb and well detailed.

And I especially like your rims. Might try your mix myself one time.
What is the correct mixing ratio ?

I keep mixing until it looks right. Probably X-11:3 / X-10:2 / XF-56:1.

The nuts are painted X-10 although XF-56 is more appropriate.

Wow, that looks really neat. Question about the doors. Does this kit come with the doors separate or did you guys cut them out?

The paint job is very nice - the Corvette seems to look good in almost every color.

Hood and doors are separately molded. The door has a piece molded in that on the 1:1 car is part of the body. It would be pretty easy to cut it, mount to the car and create opening doors. I've thought about it, but I just don't yet have the skills to make it look good.

Re: Corvette C6-R White Livery -- Picture intensive

Update: Cleared the car with X-22 and had mixed results. It came out great, but the wide carriers (I didn't know they were ALPS printed decals) really detracted from the doors where the decals overlapped. In sanding it smooth, I burned through the clear and hit the decal. I happen to have a spare, but its a pain to have to go back and redo it!

So far, this car hasn't been as much fun as I'd hoped it would be. White cars are a pain in the ass!!!!

Re: Corvette C6-R White Livery -- Picture intensive

This is a beautiful build of a great subject.
Don't worry about the wheels. I'm sure with the next Revell Corvette racing release, we'll get the correct wheels. Since the Earnhardt and LeMans C5-r's had the wheels raced on the silver checkered version, and the C6-r has the correct wheels for the yellow C5-r's, it only makes sence that they are one kit behind with their wheels

Re: Corvette C6-R White Livery -- Picture intensive

Nice build with the limited amount of revell detail. Haven't gotten the kit yet since i hadn't built the 2 5r's i have but after seeing the white livery, you just got my interest going again. Did they also do the decals for the blue livery that was raced somewhat last year and 2006?
