odd problem

We're having a bit of an odd problem with our 1996 Disco, for some reason we can't get the differentials to lock. It will go in and out of high and low range just fine, but for some reason it refuses to lock the diff's, the knob moves over but the light on the dash doesn't come on and you can tell from driving it that they aren't locked. BUT sometimes when it rains out and you'll be driving, the amber 4X4 light will come one.. what is that about? well just asking b/c the warranty is up on it and labor at our dealership is $70/hour lol. thanks

howard

turns out its both an electrical problem and a mechanical problem.. theres a place where the wiring leads through, somewhere near the passenge foot area, water is able to leak in and can short out the different lights sometimes. I've noticed that the light usually comes on when its raining or i go through a deep puddle. from questioning at RoversNorth.com, i found that sometimes the heavy grease that is used to coat the transfercase linkage gobbs up and makes it really hard to move.
