Question 3.73 Odd problem?

So i got a 3.73 put in my 98 Trans Am. Everything is great except for one thing. when i drive for a long time (an hour or so) at high speeds(say 80 mph) which keeps the rpms around 3000, i have a noise problem which also smells real bad when i come to a stop after. It sounds like the gear is lose or somthing and it makes a weird sound on each rotation till i pick up speed to about 30 mph. However, if i leave it sit the next day it will be fine with no noise. Not until i make an hour or so trip again will it make the noise. What the hell is going on?

Have you checked the fluid level in the rear end? are you sure they put limited slip fluid in it?(I can't remember what its called exactly). check the fluid level first.

passenger side of the pumpkin....near the top. Take a 3/8" rachet and take out the 'bolt'(don't know what to call it...you will see it when you get under the car). If you have any questions, PM me and I'll provide you with my cell# and I can talk you through it.

if its starting to whine...I'd take it back to the place that did the gears..sounds like the 'alignment' of the gears is off a bit.

You do know that you have to have a 'break-in' period for gears..right? don't get on it for the first 300-400 miles....just to make sure everything seat's well
