Question Racing Help!!!

Hello,
I am in great need of help. Okay, I have raced on the road many times and usually always wins (PS: I have an automatic transmission). But the other day I was Racing against some of my friends, and the starting point was this readlight. So, we would wait at this light to turn green, and this was my first real redlight race. I have a 99' Tegra LS 1.8L to let you know. Anyways, first I raced an automatic Accord 2.2L, 4 cylinder. We started and we were neck and neck, he slighty started pulling away. But, when I hit forth gear (a good bit past the 1/4 mile mark) I gained a large amount of speed and left him easily. We raced another race and the same happened again. Then another friend of mine raced me. He has a manual Civic 1.6L. We waited at the redlight and revved our engines in wait. Then it turned green. We floored it, but soon he was gaining ground and was about 2-3 carlengths ahead of me before I hit 4th, then I did like always and left him crying. I may have won all my races, but I left in dissapointment. I realized as I'm sure everyone else did, that if we had been racing the quarter mile...I would have lost pretty badly to the manual Civic. So, I what I his REALLY need to know is how I can beat manual transmissions in quarter mile races. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

I figured someone would say that, but that would have to be a last case senario, b/c given the circumstances I don't think it's possible for me to chance the tranny. Thanks anyways though.

what are you plans for your car ? turn it into a drag car ? keep it a track and street car ? or a daily driver with an occasional street race ?
also what kind of times do you wanna run ? or give me an example of a car you wanna beat in the 1/4 mile

A high performance street/track type of format. Well, I want to end up running extremely fast times. And, I will do basically anything needed, as long as it doesn't consist of turbo-charging or changing the tranny. Anyways, an example of a car I want to beat would be err...well any 4 cylinder to V6 engined cars, and maybe even a couple older V8s(maybe). Hope you can help me from the given info.

sell the ls you have now, and get another with a manual tranny, or a gsr.

now i need to know how much money you have to spend and what kind of parts you have on your car already. also what do you have against turbos ? would you be will to go supercharger because vortech is just like a turbo except belt driven instead of exhaust and upgradable like a turbo. also theres jackson racing superchargers they are also belt driven but not as upgradeable. so we need to know if you would be willing to go forced induction at all ? so yeah why not turbos ?

Why not turbos...well, b/c the are way too expensive, and as for superchargers I'm not really sure. I'm only 16, working a half-time job 4 days a week. Half my paycheck goes into paying off the car and insurance the other half I use for gas and parts. So...I'm not sure exactly what I can get by with at this time. Anyways, I have a APC Intimidator Air Filter, and a 3A-Racing Dual Tip performance Muffler(not actually installed on the car yet tho.) and that's just about it. So, I'm really looking to improve the car.

well the power you want and the times you wanna run. the only why i can see is with forced induction. turbos and the vortech cost about $4000 and a jackson racing supercharger cost about $3000. so your pretty much gonna have to spend that much to go that fast. you could do a motor swap b18c1 but that would still cost you about $2000 which would only be a 30hp increase. if you get a turbo or supercharger you looking at more like 60+hp increase. you could always go nos with like a 50 shot but youll only run high 14s.

if it were me, i would save up and buy a turbo and run around 7psi. save up more then get my block resleeved with new pistons and rods, then up the boost to like 9psi or 10 psi. you could always get cams too, they would add like 15 hp

If you put some 4-1 Headers on there, you gain some more low-end torque, that may help ya. I suggest an H22 though...

You need money to go fast. And it looks like you are lacking that, plus your car is a 17 second car, so making it faster without money is not possible. Any mods you do, like full I/H/E/flywheel will drop less than a second off your time.

Sorry, but the car you got just can't be made fast without money
