Re: Racing Help

There is no need to "double-clutch" modern syncornized transmissions ... unless your syncros are bad.

Re: Racing Help

You don't double clutch in a straight strip. That is where Vin Deisel has polluted the minds of innocent movie-goers. That aside, I do believe double-clutching is/can be useful. I do it for normal daily driving in my 3000gt vr4. The synchros are notorious for getting worn out, so this prolongs the life of them. Many say modern synchros eliminate the need for it. Regardless, it is a good habit to be in, and will prolong the life, no matter what type of synchros you have. That aside, it is for when you are downshifting. Say your in 3rd, for example.
1. Clutch in, shift outta gear
2. Release clutch
3. Rev to get your rpms to where they need to be
4. clutch in, get into 2nd and go.
This will eliminate that lurch you get when downshifting, all you have to do is get your rpms at the right speed.

Re: Racing Help

Double clutching is a bad idea for drag racing. My advise to you is to buy a gtech and practice launching techniques. It will help you to figure out what the idea rpm to launch at is. Let us know how the drag race goes.

Or you can just heel-toe... you're still matching revs... and you don't have to pretend you're driving a 1954 Bluebird Schoolbus.

LOL, that's great!

Anyways, so yeah, double clutching like it's been said, is only for downshifting, and i agree that you don't need to do it with the modern transmissions, they eliminate the need tobe doing so. You can still do it, i'm sure if anything it's better for the tranny, i just personally don't have a need for it for 2 reasons:

1. My current car is an automatic

2. My old Dodge Colt, i never double clutched it. I drove it from 180,000
to 265,000km and didn't do it once. The only reason it crapped out was because it was a Chrysler transmission and my brother fried it for me.

Your call though. Good luck with the street racing, when you have some results come post them, we'd love to hear about it!!
