Best for turbo?

Between the B16A and the ZC, which would be the best for turbo?

Both would be ok for boost but you are going to want to invest some money in some internals and a good fuel/engine management unit if you want to run serious amounts of boost. Some people say the ZC is the best to boost because of the lower compression ratio. I feel both are good candidates for boost if prepared well before adding the turbo system. Of course if you are running low amounts of boost you could get away with running a boost dependent fpr and inline fuel pump setup. But this setup is notorious for running really rich and it is a crude form of engine management. Another cheap alternative to the expensive ems sytems is using dsm injectors, a new intank fuel pump, and an afc to control the larger injectors. I have heard that this setup works pretty well considering is not that expensive.

Good engine management systems:

Hondata-Only b and h series ecus
Zdyne... d series guys
Haltec
Aem
Speedpro
Motec
Electromotive

These are just a few of the ones out there. If you need some more info just ask.

91ZC brings up very good points. From what I have heard a non Vtec is easier to tune then a engine with Vtec for a boost setup.

Im running boost on a ZC and its going pretty good. If I where to do it again I would have probabaly gone LS Turbo

Cool, thanks for you input. The ZC is cheaper and easier anyway, and I think I'll just build it for boost. Thanks!

I think the ZC would be an awesome enging for boost. If you build the heck out of it, it should be able to take some serious pressure. If I ever have the chance, that will be my next project.

Ok, Whats the PSI to HP ratio? Or, the equation to figure out how much horsepower gained from a turbo?

There really is no equation for how much hp you get from a turbo....It depends on the overall setup and tuning. But you can get an idea of a theroretical number by looking at compressor maps to see how much air the turbo will push.

dude both motors are good to boost. the b16 is a little bit of a stronger engine but nothing much. i have heard many probelms when u boost vtec. it is alot easier to boost non vtec u have less shit to worry about. i was going to do the zc turbo in my 95 4door but now i am going ls fully built. but its up to you really. good luck though man.
ohh by the way the b16 redlines much higher than the zc and high rpm isnt the best for boost you will start to loose boost as you climb. i would go zc.

Ummm...boost will only fall off at high rpm if the turbo runs out of steam. If the turbo is sized correctly...using the compressor maps I mentioned before, then the boost will be strong all the way through the rev range. Boosting Vtec isn't bad either. With the use of cam gears you can dial out most of the overlap and eliminate the problems associated with cam timing overlap. Please enlighten us as to why a non-vtec motor is easier to boost because a lot of people use them with boost very successfully.

well first things first about the boost. yes the b16 is a good motor to do so if u have the time and the MONEY. the ZC has a better compression ratio to boost off in the begineing . the b16 has a much higher comp ratio. and what does vtec do it increases volumetric effitioncy of the enginge. the same thing turbo does except the turbo does a better job. and fuel. what a pain to get right and the fear of ur motor popin. i have a friend with the d16y8 motor fully built and boosted and tuned and he just poped his second motor. it all depends on how much money u got to spend. personaly i would go ZC. ohh and predetination is always a pain when u boost vtech if and only if u do it right and spend the money i would boost b16.

i say turbo a ZC or sohc vtec. b series costs just too much. dropshop has some great info on turbo. turbo info prices page he has that set-up on his ZC. dropshop has been putting together a complete junkyard turbo set-up that you can run 10-14 psi on stick internals. he's been running it along time with no troubles....
