best engine and tranny for turbo?

WEll, I still have the tired old d16 in my 4g. I am going to swap it to something, do a light buildup (low CR pistons, shot peened or forged rods and a tiny head work) and put some boost into it. I want a reliable daily driver that is fast and fun to drive, for a while I thought b16 turbo, then I thought ZC turbo (how hard is it to get parts) then I thought maybe lsvtec turbo or crvtec turbo (really bad rod-stroke ratio), I keep comming back to the ZC. What do you guys think, and what has been succesful for you.
Also, I am getting a little tired of turning 4k rpms on the highway with my si tranny. What are some good ways to give me a better final drive. Also, does anyone make a kit to beef up the 4g tranny or just a regular rebuild kit?

instead of a ZC, go with a LS block..... NO VTEC....... and then do the low comp. pistons, and rods and headwork, and give that baby BOOOOST! that would be sweet, you dont need vtec..... no matter what AMI tells you! As far as the tranny goes, i have no clue, because i dun know much about that stuff.....

the only problem I see is that I would need to get engine mounts then, if someone wanted to measure up their mounts for me and tell me the type of material they were made from, I could make my own, but I think it is rediculous to spend 400 on engine mounts. I like the idea, and I could prolly find the engine at a boneyard. put a couple hundred into her and slap on a turbo (easier said than done). Anyway, can I use the civic cable tranny with the LS engine?

k i would go ls, i am going ls. the ls has a low enough comp where you wont have to lower the comp ratio. the ls tranny has a better final drive. yes mounts are like $450 but that includes mounts and shift linakge. i think its worth it, more potential out of the b18a then the zc. and the hasport mounts come with a lifetime warrenty. and if you get a b series motor you need a b series tranny. if you get the zc(which i am against) you can use your stock tranny.

I thought about the ls engine, if a lsvtec engine has a bad rod to stroke ratio, then so would an b18. The b16's rod to stroke ratio is almost perfect, is the zc the same?

If you go ZC then use the ZC tranny as longer gearing builds more boost.

i would say away form the zc, its harder to find parts, so you gotta keep a list with the part numbers you need to use or soemthing like that.

well i was talking with my bro today about him building up a car, he is just a dreamer, funny stuff. well i showed him some shit, so you can check these out too if you want

The ZC trans has shorter gearing my friend. I would say go with the SI or LX trans if you were to go with a D series motor. B series motor would probably like the LS trans most of all.

I would..

If I were you I would go with the LS engine and the LS tranny; the low compression of this engine and the stroke will help you create power and at the same time risking less. The ls trannies are better for turbo because they have longer gears which alow the turbo to spool up longer alowing you to produce more through each gear. Im currently going through my own issues cause I want to go turbo with my 1990 Integra with the 95GSR engine in it but Im hearing alot of "dont do it"; the compression is high and I was gonna drop it and use a block guard but with all Im hearing Im thinking of just selling the GSR engine and going back to my LS. Hey when you look at it the LS isnt all that bad; its cheap, low compression which is great for turbo and it has longer stroke which helps in the production of power. If your going LSvtec just make sure you rebuild it properly or if you staying stock at least put a gsr oilpump and water pump to help keep you runing a little safer and make sure you stay under 8psi. Its a expensive, funny, depressing, scary and and fun hobby just make sure you take your time with this process or you'll be out of commission just as fast as you came in. :smoka: besafe 1!

I agree on the ls tranny. Longer gears are better for turbo. 1990-1993 all integs have cable trans.

Don't listen to those ppl man. YOu can go high compression turbo if you want. It produce more power than low compression with LESS boost though. If you ever get rid of your gsr engine.. send it my way

Yeah the thing is I know people that have done this setup alot GSR Turbo and they did okay as long as they stayed with low boost and their runing strong with no problems. I went on some other site and posted a help post on prepping a GSR for turbo and I got these to guys that were just getting on my nerves between their dum comments and their its impossible to turbo a gsr state of mind. I wanted to know do you have any suggestions on highperformance headgaskets for turbo engines and what kinda blockguards would you suggest(brand?). I wanted to at least do that before I turbocharged the GSR. Let me know if you have anything in mind. Thanx.:smoka:
