3:73 gears

I was thinking about getting 3:73 gears for my 1990 Cougar XR7, what I have found is the gears themselves are not that expensive, but the installation is, how hard is it to actually put them in myself, if anybody knows a web site where they have like instructions how to do it that would be helpful, or if anybody knows how and would care to give me an explanation that would be extremely helpful, and save me some money, thanks...

gear swapping isn't hard, per se, but it is a very precise job. you need to be very exact when doing the shimming to get spacing right. look it up online, and you'll find out some more specific info. Car Craft or Hot Rod may have some online archives for this. good luck

Question

i know that 3.73's will help you accelerate faster than 3.23's, but are the 3.73's higher gear ratioi or lower gear ratio than the 3.23's?

3.73s are a lower gear ratio than 3.23s. the higher it is numerically, the lower the ratio is mechanically.
