3:73 gears

Whats up!!
I have a 94 mustang gt, thinking about getting 3:73 gears, wondering if i would need any other modifications to complement the gears??
Also i keep seeing you guys mentioning to remove the air silencer, where is the silencer located?
One more question, someone told me to get a MSD ignition, what exactly does this do? Also thinking about getting a new trottle body, note that my car is pretty much stock except for an aftermarket cold air kit, bbk headers, and flowmasters. THX!

Re: 3:73 gears

1. Only thing with the gears is to get them done professionally from someone who knows what they are doing.

2. The Air Silencer is that rubber piece that's attached to the Air Box (where the Air Filter is) and it goes into the Fenderwell(and looks a little like a funnel) all you have to do is pull it out.

3. From what I've been researching, the MSD Blasters Coils are nothing more than hype, and certainly a waste of money on a stock car. Best thing to do is make sure the stock stuff is working to specs, and maybe play around with the plugs a bit (side gapping, etc)

AEM WB02, Minor tunes, running pig rich. No clue as to RWHP feels a tad faster than a stock 05 GT.

Re: 3:73 gears

pic up the new issue of 5.0 mustangs and superfords. it has a very detailed guide to new gear installs. it is not so complicated that one can not do it buy themself but i strongly recamend if u do to replace all the seals. get the kist with the new goodies for gear install.
a new throttle body will almost nothing on a stock intake manifold. i would definatly get thos 3.73, but with the money for the msd and the throttle body id buy a new air intake or some gt40 heads.
the new ignition will do nothin on your car. it is for more advanced cars. when you have alot of horsepower you will run into the problem of running lean. this means that there is not enough fuel in the chamber. basically the car will combust all of the air in there untill it exploids and then the spark plug is bad cuz its sprking at a different time. so the igniton will supply enough spark at all times for all the power u thor at it. it will also rtard the timming so there is less spark to counter not having enough fule in the chamber. that way you dont detinate because that can destroy an engine if it has enough power.

Re: 3:73 gears

I would get a alum driveshaft with a gear swap. This will help reduce vibration in the drive line from the new gears.

Silencer is in the fender well at the end of the airbox

I would not bother with an ignition unless you get more mods, the stock ignitions works pretty good.

Re: 3:73 gears

Not if you still have the stock heads.

To try to answer your questions.......do you need anything to complement the gears? no, not really, you might want to get the speedo gear to keep your speedometer true.

About the MSD ignition....The only thing the MSD ignition will give you is more voltage to the spark plugs. That's about the only thing you can use it for if the motor is still stock. You have no need for data acquisition or a rev limiter. So I agree, it's a waste for now.

The throttle body might give you 4-8hp more or less. Thatwould be my guess.
