The ignition on my 2001 Saturn SL1 is locked up. Drove it last night -- no problems (none prior to last night either). This afternoon, tried to start the car, the key will not turn in the ignition. Usually, this means that you simply need to turn the wheel slightly and the key will turn. Not this time! Any idea what the problem is, how solved?

Hey, I just recently bought a 1996 Saturn SL2. My ignition locks as well and I'm not able to turn they key but...it has an aftermarket alarm on it and it has to disengage the alarm before they key will turn in the ignition so make sure when you get in your saturn before you try to start it hit the unlock so all the doors are unlocked. It works for me not sure what's all going on with yours.
Billy P.S. Hoped this helped. |

Re: Locked Ignition
There is a cable that allows the ignition to turn only when the transmission is in park. You might try to move the shifter handle and see if it works.

I have the same problem. It won't allow me to turn the ignition over. It has happened on 2 other occasions. When I let it set and come back it works. It has been two days now and It still hasn't allowed me to turn the ignition over. HELP!!

Re: Locked Ignition
tiffen6, are you saying you have a no start condistion? because they are talking about not being able to remove the key. so are you saying you can't turn the key or the starter is not engageing?
assume you can turn the key - do you hear any click or any engine noises? when you turn the key does the radio cut off? when you turn the key do any of the lights dim? what year/model/mileage? |

Re: Locked Ignition
Malcolm is right, make sure you are 100% in park.

Re: Locked Ignition
try the simple stuff frist, lube the key hole.
and also for some strange reason, cuting new keys sometimes fixes the problem(even out of bad ones) |
