a borla cat back system is nice or a gale bank exhaust is really nice but pricey. if you go with a flowmaster it will have the drone at certain rpms inside the cab that will make you nuts.

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust
Check into a Magnaflow. I'm thinking about getting one for my husbands truck. From what I've read, it won't make the noise inside loud like other mufflers, but you will get the deep rumble outside that most people are looking for.

I was thinking about measuring the muffler, buying an afterburner or something that will fit and going to midas and having them fab up some pipes, this might be the most inexpensive. dunno. Gio |

I put the single outlet Gibson cat back on my 2003 4.8 and I'm very pleased. Not too loud in the cab and just right outside.

I'm shopping, too. The Gibson systems are nice and priced best through www.summitracing.com. I'm looking on the economy side. www.jcwhitney.com has a variety of less expensive cat-backs, as low as $169.99 that I'm inclined to go with.

I 've had my truck ('96 K1500 ext. cab w/ 5.7l) a week and I already want to dump the whole exhaust. Chevy small block manifolds are restrictive on any motor, the y-pipe is the factory's attempt at a joke, and the rest isn't much better either. I like Edelbrock's TES setup, but haven't heard much in the way of feedback from any 4-wheelers. I drive on-road 90% of the time but I still want good torque the few times I'm off-road.
BTW, Flowmaster has several different types of mufflers. In general, steer clear of any 2-chamber models as they are LOUD - the 3-chamber models (especially the improved delta series) are better suited for us truck types.Geno |

Aftermarker exhaust for 2004 Sierra
I have a 2004 Sierra Crew Cab 2500 short box with Quadrasteer. Does anyone know of an aftermarket exhaust that fits a Light Duty 2500? This is the first year GM has offered this truck so I don't even know if there is a system out there. I guess the similar truck from last year was the 1500 HD Crew cab truck....but in 2004 they dont offer the 1500 HD Crew Cab anymore. Would a cat back for a 2003 1500 HD Crew cab fit a 2004 2500 LD? Both trucks come with the 6.0L engine.
Any help would be appeciated. Thanks JUstick |

I have a 2000 Sierra also, running dual out Magnaflow exhaust...Sounds great, not much cab noise which is also a plus. Has a great tone outside, and inside on accelerations. Improved performance, but mileage isn't that great, i just tend to push it harder/louder. I recommend Magnaflow exhaust.

I ended up going with the Gibson cat-back "Super-Truck" system. It exits in front of the rear wheels and is pretty loud. This system was easy to install, since it doesn't go over the axle.
I found the best pricing on this system through Proficient Performance spf8298, take a look at Gibson Exhaust for your application. They offer both stainless steel and aluminized systems with a variety of exit locations. I noticed that the exhaust on my 03 was 2 3/4" diameter and no one offers exhaust components in this size. The Gibson system is 3" between the cat and muffler.

I have a 96 gmc sierra with a 5.7, I just installed a flowmaster 3 chamber duel in , duel out, it is very loud in the cab, outside sounds good. It's been on for a week and I am having it taken off, I Am thinking about a magnaflow, anyone have any info on the magnaflow, I need to cut down the interior noise in half.
Thanks! |

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust
I have a 91 full size LB, and have the magnaflow, I personaly like it, though the shop felt I could get better performance from the flowmaster"delta".
but because of past experience noise levels w/other exaust I opted for the magna flow. just a personal pref, I guess. |

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust
Last week I had a V-Force muffler installed on my 2000 GMC Sierra Z-71 X-Cab. The drone inside the cab was so bad at 1800 rpm, I had it taken off and put on a larger muffler with baffles. Sadly, the nice rumble is gone along with the drone.
The V-force is kind of a knock-off of the Flowmaster, so it's no surprise that the same results are being reported With Flowmasters. My system is a single pipe in from the Y and two pipes out into straight 3" extensions. I talked to the people at Flowmaster and they said they have a lot of complaints about cab noise on the GM X-cab trucks. They recommend their new 70 series muffler as a better choice, not necessarily a cure ( about $150) |

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust
I have a 99' Silverado Z71 and my buddy has a 99' Sierra (Same truck w/different Badge) and it seems people are not happy with the Flowmaster systems.... I installed A Cat-back 20 series system on my truck and Couldn't be happier, I get hardly any noise inside the cab and it gave my truck an entirely new attitude. the system came with a resonator I will be adding another kit to the Sierra soon. The Kits come with everything you need to install, You most likely will have to replace the Cat bolts for they dont come off very nicely. -Jimmy
