Re: When to shift?

WHAT? 1200? ARE you kidding? The turbo wont even spool that low.
To answer your original question, my turbos don't spool till 2500, but that is really determined by the size of your turbo(s) and the air moving through them. If you get intake and exhaust, downpipe and other mods, the turbo will spool faster. Regardless, there are equations to figure out ideal shift points, on my car, some of them even worked out to be past redline(but you don't want to do that) so when in doubt, just take it to redline in every gear if you are trying to race. If you are trying to get good gas mileage, shift at 1500 or whatever your lowest point is.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: When to shift?

hes a newb, dont worry about him. anyway, what you want to find out, is where the peak horsepower is, then shift past that, and find out where you can shift so that it lands right before your peak power, so theres no lag

Re: When to shift?

it's a car.
he doesn't know shit about it, obviously...
why would you shift at anything but a very high rpm (or redline) when racing...

anyone is going to tell you that you want to shift at the power peak (or at redline, to keep the revs above X rpm when they drop down for the next gear)

running to redline ensures that the revs will be above his spooling RPM's...
IE.
shift at 5k, it'll drop to 2k (this is theoretical)
shift at 5700, it'll drop to almost 3k

see what i mean?
