Re: questions on how to fix 1989 grand prix

i smoke in my car... you cant even tell I do... I have about 20 used airfreshners in there. Its a combination between papya, penaculda, peachy peach, vanilla. 70% is vanilla. High recomend NOT to put a lot in at once... Its really strong. (Note... Ive been collecting theses for about 2 years now) I'll tell you what people cant believe my car doesnt smell like smoke. Its been about 3-4months since Ive put a new one in. Its crazy.

Just thought you would like to know

It is pretty easy to replace a headliner in a car. First you need to remove the headliner board with the old fabric still attached. You would have to take down the visors and loosen the molding around the perimeter of the headliner, being careful not to break any clips holding it up. Take the board and lay it on some saw horses or a big table and pull the old fabric off. You have to be really careful not to bend or break the board itself though. There will probably be some old lining left on the board so just take your hand and rub it and it'll come off. You want a nice clean board to put new fabric on. You need a can of 3M spray glue from an automotive store or just about anywhere, it's around 9 or 10 bucks. You can buy the new fabric at an upholstery shop or headliner place. You need roughly 2 yards for this car. All materials for this should stay uder 30 bucks depending on what kind of fabric you want. Spray the glue on the headliner board evenly and generously. Lay the new fabric on the board and smooth it on with your hands. It is usually easier to start at one end and work your way to the other. Do not lay the whole piece of fabric on the board at one time because it will stick there before you can work it in correctly. After applying the fabric, use a razor knife and trim out the holes for the light and visors. Just cut an x in the holes. Trim around the edges leaving about an inch to tuck under. The edges of the board should be covered. It takes me less than an hour to do one, so good luck!!

Coach, sound you have done it a couple of times.
Ajpenny: In the future when you park outside on the hot weather always leave a small opening on the windows so the interior refreshes. If you do not do that the interior temp would rise to much and with time the 3M glue would not hold the linning in place.

Re: questions on how to fix 1989 grand prix

Hey check this out lol....when I bought my 89 Grand Prix, some high schooler got bored and covered basically everything...LITERALLY...except the seats, with black and red velvet. At first I laughed so hard my stomach hurt, but it actually don't look so bad. But some of it has to come off like the stuff that is faded on the dash and around the window switches cause they stick. There's an idea for ya!
