Aftermarket Brakes-'94 2500-454???
Are they available and are they worth it? I get just about 17,500 miles in my front pads. I can always tell when they need changin because they start to pull when they get thin. The brake pedal also feels spongy and they feel weak in the stopping department.
I'm real easy on the brakes and only pull a medium weight boat occasionally. You'd a thought that GM would have known how to build brakes by 1994. I'd be interested in looking at anything that would improve stopping power and pad life. |

I also have a 94 2500-454. about a year ago replaced front rotors and pads with top of the line raybestos and wagner parts lasted about 9000 miles and couldn't keep the dust off my wheels. I finally got tired of the squeeling from the pads and bought slotted rotors and Hawk ferro carbon pads and did it ever make a difference. Just drove from Washington to Arizona can't even notice dust build up and it stops 10X better. Also power bleed the brake system with dot-4 fluid.

BDATI2D, do you have a brand name for the slotted rotors and any internet sites for the rotors and pads? It was my understanding that both heat and undersizing was responsible for the rapid brake wear and squishy stopping performance. That GM had used as big a pad as they could use with a single piston caliper. When they finally remedied, at least the stopping power issue, they went to dual piston calipers. Even those have potential issues if one of the pistons hangs up.
By the way, if you haven't considered a Banks Power Pack for your Burb, DO IT! Where as b4 my Burb went flat after about 3000 rpm, now it pull strong right up thru redline. It also enables you to bump the advance between 2 & 4 deg which makes it 'jump' of the line. I also dropped in a 180 deg thermostat when I bumped the advance. |

Yes I do, They are Power Slot rotors. I bought them at www.truckperformance.com along with the pads. Very nice site, easy to navigate. Shop by vehicle type and it brings up everything specific to you model and year. I also replaced my calipers because the bleeders busted off. I also felt that they where sticking.
I'm planning on rebuilding my 130,000 454 this year. Complete upgrade. Edelbrock fuel injection, Adjustable valve train with roller rockers and lifters. Stainless headers, dual exhaust with x-pipe ect. ect. plus a few tranny mods. Should be a hole lot stronger. and I might get a little better fuel mileage getting rid of that crappy throttle body injection it has. Dave |

I have seen conversion kits to get rid of those crappy drum brakes in the rear, but I can't remember where. Here is a link to the slotted rotors that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Re: Aftermarket Brakes-'94 2500-454???
Thanx all. They make the slotted rotors sound like a must patch for the ol' burb.
Good luck, BDAT12D, on your upgrades. You almost have to do something with those boat anchor heads. Our burbs only have 7.9:1 compression from a combo of huge combustion chambers and dished pistons. Short of a complete teardown I'd hoped to find some smaller cc heads(no luck yet) that would work on the 94. I doubt I'll go to the extent that you want to but roller rockers and better heads would be an easy upgrade. I only have 40k on my '94. |
