In my opinion, what you are dealing with here is a gastank. A gastank holds gas. A flammable liquid. I would spare no expense paying to have that fixed instead of some crappy sealent you could get at autozone. So in the end, i say get it fixed professionaly or replaced.

Re: Help...Poked Hole In Gas Tank

I would have to agree... and also consider yourself lucky drilling the hole into the tank didn't cause a spark.

They do make a putty, Jesse James used it recently on monster garage - the semi bike episode, but I don't know the name. They got it from a truck. I'm sure you can find some information, you are on the internet you know.

Re: Re: Help...Poked Hole In Gas Tank

I tore a hole in my gas tank about a month ago. I called the shop and they wanted $450 plus labor to install a new one. I bought one for $106 from a junkyard, and it took about two hours or so of easy work to install it. If you know how to turn a wrench and pull off a few hoses, you can easily do it yourself. You can pay a little to get it temporarily patched, or pay a little more for a permenant fix. Then you can go out to a big dirt field and blow up your old one

Re: Help...Poked Hole In Gas Tank

as a side note, I believe the gas tank has a coating over it... you might have to scrape that off around the hole so the repair will stick well to the metal

That coating is only on the underside of it.
