Question Short ram intake install

Hello, I am new to this forum so I hope this question has not already been addressed. I did search for this already and wasn't able to locate an answer, so I will ask it. I have a 1997 4dr automatic 2.2L cavi. I bought an air intake off of E-bay (won't do it again, but I can't do anything about it now) and I am positive that it is made for my engine. However, I took it to my mechanic to have him install it and he said it wouldn't fit. I then installed it myself and was able to get it to fit on, but the hood seems to rest on it when it is closed. That being the case, have I installed it wrong or is it possibly the wrong type of intake? Also, there are TWO small tubes (kit came with two silicone hoses) coming off the center of the intake tube and I know one goes to the "knob" on the top of the engine, but where does the second connect to? Is it better (performance wise) to go with this aftermarket intake or stick with the factory intake? I'm sorry to sound so stupid but this is my first aftermarket intake I've ever gotten. Thanks to anyone who can help me!!

P.S.--are there any instructions or visuals for this install on a 2.2L engine?

do you have a picture of the intake, or the link from ebay... i might be able to help you do it, i just put my intake on a few months ago... aftermarket intakes are much better than stock.. aftermarket intakes let the engine breathe easier and if you pair it up with a new exhaust system including header you will get a very nice performance gain.. heres one that sounds similar to the one you have scroll down the page a bit and youll see it installed u need the black rubber piece if your intake doesnt have a hole for the air sensor.

yeah you gotta connect the part with the curv to the rubber hose with the air sensor like in that picture i told you to look at.. and well the hoses you can either just connect one to each of those lil things sticking up there and get a breather filter for the engine...http://www.mantapart.com/2022ohv.html?229,33 by looking at the picture u can pretty much see what u have to do.. since no one is answering here may i suggest that u post this at http://www.clubcav.com/forums/viewfo...56d55a98223ef6

Re: Short ram intake install

If you can, send the intake back to whoever you purchased it from. The 2.4L engine on Z24's has an outside line already taking in cold air. You actually are decreasing the performance of the car and the intake leaves you with the civic sounding exhaust. Leave the factory intake on, get a performance chip off of ebay. Lot more horsepower will be achieved.

You have to remove the STOCK plastic air filter casing. Rip it out its useless anyways!

i ran into the same problem when i got my shortram intake. I have a 95 2dr, 2.2L....same thing as yours. When you remove the old air box and filter, you put the new filter in the same place as the old was. The air sensor on the top of the engine hits the 3" pipe so it doesnt lie in place naturally....also your hood hits the filter right? Nothing you can do about that. I bought an HKS filter to replace the K&N that I put on, which is a better filter but it hits the hood even worse. Your best bet...what I did anyways....is to just buy a standard honda civic cold air intake and put it in instead. You'll get better performance out of it cuz of the colder air of course, but you'll pay more. What you'll have to do for this to work is pop out the headlight <driverside> and right below and behind the light is a 3" hole that leads down infront of your front tire. You drill that hole large enough to fit the civic pipe through it, and put the filter on from below....works REALLY NICE!!!

dude let me know what you did. All my cars have had a cold air kit, but this one really has me stumped. It's an aer or something and it looks exactly like yours and I don't know what the hell to do with the other hose inlet.
