durango lock problem

My 2000 durango rear driver's side door lock makes a loud buzz in that door's speaker every time it locks. Any ideas? Also, how do you remove the door panels?

Hi Tracy

My 2000 Durango started doing the same thing, it got louder and louder and then the door lock got to where it would stick. I finally had to remove the door panel and unhook the wiring to the door lock. About a week later the driver’s side passenger door lock started clicking. I have already unhooked it. I think they must a have plastic gears and they wear out. I have not priced replacement locks yet.

The door panel is easy to take off. Two screws on the bottom of the panel, one behind the latch and one around the arm rest. The lift the panel upward and there you have it.

Regards,

Trent

Re: durango lock problem

I found this message elsewhere.

Does anyone other than the dealer sell the door lock actuators for the D? All 4 of my door locks are screeching when actuated. It started last year with the passenger side. I went to the dealer and he wanted $70 just to look at it. The actuators are $100 a piece and he said I can't bring it back if that doesn't fix it so I need to have them look at it. Well I passed and decided to wait until the AutoParts store starts selling them. Then the rear passenger side door started screaming, then the rear driver's side, now the driver's side. My father knows a mechanic that works at the local Dodge dealership so I talked to him this weekend. He said this was a common problem on ALL Chrystler cars not just the D. He said that Dodge charges $100/door for parts and $85/hr for labor @1.5hrs per door. Thats over $900. He said if I buy the parts he'll put them in for me for $50 total. I love my D, but these minor problems (ball joints, door locks, rocking seat, tranny) have gotten me upset with DC and one of the reasons when the Dodge dealership called me with an invitation to test drive the new D I told him I just bought a GM truck (I know, sell out).
