E36 auto Tranny Compatibility
Hi im trying to find an auto transmission that will be compatible with my 92 325i. Im having trouble figuring out wich e36 trannys are compatible with my car. Also wich differentials are compatible as mine is starting to go. Are any M3 drivetrains compatible ? I will greatly apprecite any help, I just bought this fixer upper for 2500$ with 156000 miles and I have so much to learn. Hope to make new friends here also, Im in Coronado,Ca. San Diego

Compatibility depends upon what type of trans and trans control module you have in your 92. I assume that it's the GM TH1 (with two oil pans). Those units were used through the late 90s in their 4sp setup in both the 4 and 6 cylinders. However, it is crucial that you match your calibration code with your current TCM when you replace it. Or you may consider a 5sp swap (manual setup).
