am i just being anal?

ive had my 97 base model lude for about two weeks now. ive noticed a slight hesitation in acceleration after i shift into gears 2 and 3. the car hesitates for about half a second and then kind of kicks in, if you will. when i first got the car i changed the oil, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor...still does this. its nothing like the clutch going out or anything because the car has a brand new clutch and it doesnt feel like that.

i had a mechanic check this out and he said that its probably a small vacuum hose leak, but a few other people have said stuff like dirty injectors (doesnt really feel like that either), bad plug wires (still look good), or other stuff.

this really isnt that big of a deal and it only does this when i shift under normal driving conditions. and it does not do this when i get into the throttle (75% +). just slightly annoying. my dad says im being anal, but i just want the car to run like a champ and not run into problems later. if any of you guys have ran into this problem or have a solution or something share them with me. id really appreciate it.

Re: am i just being anal?

could be your O2 sensor, your knock sensor, mass air flow.

is there a check engine light on?? if so, get the code THEN post. no sense in explaining your problem if a CEL code has been thrown. you'll get a faster and more accurate answer with that kind of info. if there's no check engine light, then check everything's that's been mentioned.

this may very well sound like a stupid question, but here goes...is there a separate "check engine light" other than the "engine maintenance required" indicator? and if my "engine maintenance required" indicator has a green light does that mean engine maintenence is required? i assumed that it meant that everything was good: green = go, red = stop and change some stuff...

my girlfriends 95 civic ex light is red, and it surely needs some maintenence before my prelude would. or so it seems.

how can i get the code that you are talking about? or does this only come with a check engine light. i thought that i knew a hell of alot but it seems like when a problem that should be simple occurs, im a dipshit. my 95 civic lx never pulled any of this crap and i love this car but i am getting discouraged because i want this thing to run like a champ. next stop is gonna be the mechanic.

Re: am i just being anal?

yeah, there's an actual check engine light. that maintenance required indicator is different and not the one i'm talking about. the check engine light will be on the lefthand side of the cluster.

The maintenance indicator is there simply to remind you when your maintenance is due. The prelude is based on a 7500 mile maintenance plan. It will change to yellow first just short of 7500 miles then red past 7500 miles. It simply works off the amount of miles you have put on since your last maintenance action. The indicator is reset after you slip your key into the slot just below.
