Problems?...
I've got a 90' S13 Fastback... seems like it's running a little hot. How often do you guys add coolant? Also, I can really feel the heat from the engine coming through to where the gas and brake pedals are, and also around the center console. Is all of this normal?
On another note, I think my master brake cylinder may have a leak. Any idea how much it should cost to replace that (Parts/Labor)? Thanks guys! |

The exhaust runs right under where your feet are
you can really feel it in my car because it's bare metal where my feet are. It's great in colder weather but during the summer it's HELL.Literally

idk about your MC problem, i've never replaced one. it shouldn't be too hard though. check out www.alloemautoparts.com for a price. they are the cheapest around.
my s13 was running very hot for a while. i checked it out and my water pump and thermostat were leaking. the coolant needs to be under pressure and it wasn't b/c of the leak. i had to run with my heat on full blast to keep the temp stable. another problem was my thermostat was bad. take your termostat out and heat it up with a blow torch or lighter and see if it opens. if it doesn't- replace it. another possibility is if theres air in the system. this is unlikely unless you drained it and refilled it recently. theres a bleeder (on the DOHC, idk about the SOHC) right where the upper rad. hose goes into the head. bleed it there. also, jack the front of the car up high and loosen the heater hose clamp and twist the hose loose, but not all the way off (on the passenger side coming out of the firewall, on the DOHC). if theres air in the back of the system, it will escape from there and then coolant will come out. tighten it back up, make sure your coolant resevior is to the max line or a little higher. open the rad. cap and fill it all the way to the top. |

*doh*
Well as soon as I got the cylinder replaced (150, P/L), white smoke just spewed out of the muffler. :Shiiiit: and I just passed emissions with flying colors... They checked the system, and said there was no leaks. If it continues, it might need a new valve job?
What the hell? White smoke... after a while it turned a bit grey. I think some junk got into the exhaust while they were working on it, and it burned up. Really dunno... any ideas out there?:Edit: BTW the white smoke stopped comin out after around 5 minutes of running the engine. I'll drive it around and see if it happens again... white smoke = burning oil? ... :Another Edit: Just took it around and seems fine now. Vapor maybe? Anybody experience cracked headgaskets in here with their 240s? I thought the KAs were built to last.-- Car is auto so you can't really abuse the engine either.
