Uneducated vs. Ignorant

What is the distinction between the two? Is an ignorant person an uneducated person that doesn't care to be educated?

Can you blame someone for being uneducated? For being ignorant? Both or neither?

Ignorance has nothing to do with education. Ignorance simply means that someone does not know or understand something. It also doesnt mean that someone is stupid either. For instance I am ingnorant of how to perform brain surgery, doesnt mean I'm stupid or uneducated.

Uneducated is much simpler - no formal education. Again, doesnt mean stupid or ignorant.

Good Answer

I agree, good answer.

I would just add that to me, ignorance also includes not wanting to know about something. A person can be uneducated, but still very intelligent. There are many valid reasons that a person may not be educated, but I feel that there is no excuse (these days) for one to be ignorant. A person can also be very educated, yet very ignorant.

For example, one of the guys I work with is highly educated and very bright as far as business goes, but he has some completely insane theories on society and the world. Why? Because he has chosen not to learn/study/understand. This is ignorance.

By the same token, being rich and being classy are not the same thing even though many people feel that they are synonyms. To state the obvious, the poorest person in a room may have the most class, while the richest may be a total weasel.

I believe they can be related. If you are uneducated, you can be ignorant to things you don't understand. To be ignorant means you block out things you don't understand. I don't think they are complementary though. You cannot understand alot of things if you are
uneducated therefore they can be related.
