Chevy Beretta 3100

I have a 1996 Chevy Beretta z-26 3100 and I am wondering what the difference is between this engine and a 3.1 engine.

I am also wondering what engine would fit this car if I did an engine swap without too much of a problem. I would prefer something with a supercharger.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dale

the 3.1 and the 3100 are the same engine and if ur lookin to do an engine swap you can easilly put in a 3.4L or 3400 as gm calls it with minimal work

now if ur lookin to do s/c then what u need to do is look for a company like vortech who makes many s/c kits to put on the 3.4( this makes the most sence to me) also gm s/c engine i believe u'll have to go all the way to 3.8 or 3800 (i've heard of one place in canada which does this swap on berettas i'm not sure on the price but i think it'll run about $10k normally aspirated)(check out beretta.net) but seriously consider getting a 3.4 and possibly boring it out for the larger displacement and if u still need more go to a s/c kit!! to put 10k into a car thats maybe just worth that is silly

but think about it cuz i was for a long time and then reality kicks in and i see the "$" figure

I've seen a 3800 SC swapped into a Grand Am (same difference).
It is, however a big project.
If you've done a chip, K&N filter, and a cat back exhaust your 3100 should be quick. Make sure all of your motor and trans mounts are in good shape and then do some suspension work to get that power to the ground!

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

WRONG! The 3.1 and the 3100 ARE NOT the same engine. First of all, the electrical/computer system for the 3.1 is ODB, while the 3100 is ODBII. Those are not compatible. The 3100 has different heads, manifolds (both exhaust & intake), throttle body, PS pump...and the list goes on. The 3100 also has a roller valvetrain and cam, while the 3.l has a flat tappet cam and a non-roller valvetrain.

Also, the 3.4 and 3400 ARE NOT the same engine. The 3.4 (LQ1) is a 60* dual overhead cam motor found in Grand Prix GTPs from 91-96. The 3400 is a standard push-rod V6 motor based on the 3100. It is found in late model Impalas, chevy mini-vans, and grand ams.

And one final note...the L67 (supercharged 3800) would be your best bet if you were going for a supercharged motor.

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

If your comparing a 3100 Pontiac engine with a 3.1 Multi-Port Chevy engine, they are different.. but.. "3.1" and "3100" mean the same thing.

no.
A pontiac 3100 and chevy 3100 are the same, and pontiac 3.1 MPFI and chevy 3.1 MPFI are the same The are differences between the 3.1 MPFI and the 3100, such as improved heads and intake plenum.
3100:

3.1 MPFI:

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

yeah, i was just trying to say, that you can refer to either engine as 3.1 or 3100.. because both 3.1 & 3100 mean the same thing, has nothing to do with anything automotive.

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

yes, well aware as i've stated. i could call the 3.1mfi a "3100" and still be correct, as i can call a "3100" a 3.1. It means the same thing.

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

it doesnt mean the same thing.
you can call a 3100 a 3.1, as it has a displacement of 3.1 liters, but you can't call the 3.1 a 3100

Re: Chevy Beretta 3100

3.1 MEANS 3100... just a different way of saying it. it has NOTHING to do with automotive, or motors, or chevrolet. it is plain and simple math & numbers.
