67 Camaro Problems

I have just bought a 67 camaro with a 350 in it. I can get it started, but it sounds sick and it wont idle. It stays running if I rev the engine and hold it there but as soon as I let off it dies. I haven't drained the gas yet but could that be a problem...I've cleaned the carb and that helped a little but I am still having problems. Thanks.

Do a basic tune up on it...

Change the Oil, Spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filters, air filter, make sure the timing is adjusted correctly... check the radiator for coolant, and yes add some good gas into the tank.

Be sure to find out if its an original motor... cause if it is, you'll need to add lead additive to your gas or you'll destroy your motor. If its a rebuilt motor then its most likely safe to use regular gas.

before you waste alot of money of additives and plugs etc. check the basics like your PCV, check all vacuum lines for leaks and stuff like that. What kind a carb does it have, if it has a quadrajunk I wouldn't recommend messing with idle scews unless you know what your doing, cause their pretty touchy. Also, sometimes their is a little cylinder shaped filter inside the carb, I think you pull the fuel line off to get to it, and if it gets clogged the engine won't idle.

its just the basic rochester 2 barrel gm carb.... i think it was the stock carb on a 305 in a 66 impala. The old carb was a piece of crap holley...Can't wait till I get the new engine, but I need something to drive it with now.

'66 Impala didnt have a 305. It had a mighty 327.

305 didnt come around till the late '70s... stupid 305... Maybe you're thinking of the 302? Which was created in '67 for the use in the Z28 for the American Trans Am racing league deal. Which had a ban on motors no larger than 305ci.

But I doubt your's is a real deal Z28. Cause you'd most likely know it was.

oppss... my mistake. It is a 302 that came out of a 66 impala. I bought the car to fix up, but it didnt have an engine. I'm planning on saving more money and getting a 396 or 454, but I'm not sure yet.
