Because as a citizen, you have to pay for shipping. Where as, in the military, they ship the car back for you. While yes you still have to spen the ungodly amount of money to have the car legalized by Moto-Wrex, its still not as bad as buying it completely through them because you get to test drive it first(for a very long time) and pick EXACTLY which one you want, first hand.

aber22, what branch of the service you in? And how hard was it to get to Japan? Whats your job?

What it is is, the Skyline does not meet DOT safety standards and emissions standards set by the EPA. Moto-Wrex fixes all this. They add on the parts that are needed to meet both specifications and whatever else you need, as well as speed parts you dont need, but you know you want. There are others that will do this work, but I know of no names, only here-say. But by joining the military and going to Japan, you have as stated earlier the choice of your cars to pick from. You get familiar with it. You get to drive it. And best of all, you get it shipped for free(or very close to it).

In Okinawa

Hey dude I'm actually stationed here in Okinawa. Yah you can get Skylines cheap over here GTS-Ts AND gts4 for anywhere from 4000 to 2000. and GTRs from 6000 and up. But search your options though you might not actually get stationed here....remember the military can promise everything but it doesn't have to give you anything. And though I do live in japan and signed another 6 years of my life to get here. And I'm actually deployed almost 6months out of the year in other countries. Thats a lot of time away from my family and ofcourse my car. Plus remember the 16000 or so fee to convert it to US standards VIA Moto-saurus-rex(bastards) Oh yeah 3 more years to go and I'm free!!

it`s true, Skylines here are cheap (used) and easy to ship to usa from Japan. I can`t believe the prices Motorex is charging. They rip you off becasue they can. Sucks

Question Can't it be done in Japan?

Let's say I was to take a trip to Japan and have someone there fix my skyline for customs? Could that be done?
If I change the bumper, 02 sensor, all that stuff, would it work?
I just can't stand for the bullshit motorex is pulling. This is plan out stupid, write your Senators and let them know what kind of assholes our government looks like, making me and you pay 25,000 plus EXTRA for a good skyline.

I think the best way around motorex is to do what I plan to do. Buy the car from Japan, I'd recomend spending the money to take a trip over there. Have the car imported back here as a racecar only application, Customs can't touch it then. Next have a very reputable mechanic fix the nessisary items so the car will pass, get the car smoged (if it applys) and have the car inspceted. It worked for my buddies Silvia S15, i don't see why it wount work for a skyline

this is getting old. read the thread at the top of this forum.

it's not a simple matter of a bumper, 02 sensor, etc. there's more to it, and it's not cheap.

end of story. like i've said over and over, there's really no work around. the military thing equals free shipping, but that's it.
