97 code P1443

97 2.3 engine 175k (short wheel base)

Neighbor just bought this vehicle, Code P1443 present. The CEl is intermitent, she told me tonight that when she fueled up she had a hard time fueling. The fuel input could only be done at a trickle mode otherwise dispenser would click off. I am thinking this is a Evaporative Emission Valve issue in the tank.

When I get a chance I will check for bad line but i am thinking that valve stays closed so the vapors do not escape during filling thus fuel is being blocked from entering tank.

Thanks for any and input.

Has anyone had problems with the Filler Neck tube hose collasping??? The aftermarket filler necks are $180.

PS: Is ther a issue with the vent tubes on the filler neck????

Re: 97 code P1443

I have the same code on my '96 with 3.0 and 4x4. I have seen posted at other sites that this code can be solved by replacing the canister purge solenoid valve. There is a hose that runs from the canister to the intake with a valve in line, I think. The valve is bad or the hose leaks and we get P1443. I have not tried the repair yet. Has anyone else had success with this? I'll post my results if I ever get to it. Too many vehicles.

Re: 97 code P1443

Sorry I had forgotten I posted this.

I replaced the line from intake to canister and cleared code, it stayed off for a while. The other day she told me that the cel comes on when the tank seems to get to 1/2 area. I suspect it needs a new gas cap but have not tried that yet. I will let you know if it works also.
