Front wheel bearing replacement
I have decided that my front passenger wheel bearing needs to be replaced on my 98 cavalier 2.2L. After reading this site and other references I have found that the procedure is as follows:
- Loosen lug nuts and loosen/remove 30 mm cv axle nut - Jack car up on stands and engage e-brake - Remove wheel - Remove brake caliper and rotors - Remove the 3 T-55 bolts - Use slide hammer to get hub assembly off of axle - Place seal into back of hub and bolt back onto axle If I have something wrong please let me know. Also, I have heard different opinions about whether or not it is necessary to detach the controll arm from the ball joint. Could someone comment on this? |

Re: Front wheel bearing replacement
No need to seperate ball joint to replace the hub on your car. The torque specs you have look correct.

Re: Front wheel bearing replacement
Check the axle nut, seems high, I remember about 135.

Found them,70 on the hub bolts is correct. The axle nut is 144lbs ft.

Re: Front wheel bearing replacement
yeah but i wouldnt set the e-brake.although saftey first maybe just chock the rear wheels unless u do use ur e-brake on a regular basis, be cause if u dont and apply the e-brake for the first time in years there is a good chance the cables will be rusted and wont release costing u more time and money
