Map Sensor Question

I' ve read that the MAP sensor values should equal the barometric pressure before you start your car. When I turn my key to the on position and check my scanner I always get a value of 103 kpa. When the car starts the reading goes to about 40 (10 degrees above barometric pressure). Does this mean that my MAP sensor is going bad?

Re: Map Sensor Question

Thanks, I got it. Barometric pressure is measured in HGs (Mercury) and the information on my scanner is in KPA (Kilopascal). So my MAP sensor is almost right on the money for a barometric pressure of 30.

Pressure / Stress Conversion Results :

Amount : 30 inches of mercury ( inHg )
Equals : 101.59 kilopascal ( kPa )

Re: Map Sensor Question

I have an Actron cp 9180. I don't think that you can change the settings on this scanner.
