2011 flying lizard porsches

I was doing my Murcielago GT-R, but after I learned that Profil24 was doing a kit for the 2011 Flying Lizard Porsche, I knew I HAD to give it a shot!!

The cars:

Back in June 6 2011, Flying Lizard Motorsports unveiled the No. 80 and No. 81 Porsches, covered with commemorative liveries designed by artist Troy Lee to celebrate the history of Porsche at Le Mans. The designs featured the 28 drivers who have won the 24 hour race in a Porsche.

This was the first time Flying Lizard Motorsport fielded two entries in the race.

The Kits:

The Flying Lizard Porsches are GT3 RSRīs, so I obtained 2 Fujimi GT3R kits (The only difference between the "regular" and the Hatsune Miku kits are the decals, also, the headlight covers tinted in yellow in the Hatsune kit)

The GT3R and the GT3 RSR are very different. I ordered the Profil24 kit hoping for a good RSR body, but the only accurate pieces of that kit are the decals and the PE set.

Fortunately, Mikezibit from Scale Production pointed me to the magnificent Carrera RSR body.

It is a slot racing body, but the details are great. Hereīs a comparison between the Fujimi GT3R and the Carrera RSR bodies

The fujimi Chassis need some adjustments to fit in the Carrera body, but they look minor and easy to do.

Detail parts:

Hobby Design released a PE set for the Fujimi GT3R, and it is really nice. I specially like their details for the interior of the car and the brake discs. The Profil24 kit includes a PE set, but almost all the details included are for the body and canīt be used in the Carrera piece.

Decals:

For the moment, only DecalDoc and Profil24 offer decals to do the Flying Lizard Le Mans cars. I highly recommend the Profil24 decals. They are silk screened and they are just beautiful! You will need 2 sheets to do both cars.

With Profil24 decals and Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals, I am ready to begin!!

Now, I have to give you 2 imortant notes! 1) For all of you who want to use the Carrera body, Scale Production offers PE detail and window frame decals for this body. 2) Scale Motorsport is developing a transkit to convert the Fujimi GT3R to the RSR and the transkit will inlcude decals, PE details and decals to do both Lizard cars. I got this news directly from Matt Wells (Owner of Scale Motorsport) last October. Maybe someone could send Matt a mail to ask you the status of his transkit.

Well, thatīs it for the moment! Next I will post some info about the adjustments to fit the Fujimi chassis to the Carrera body!

Where did you get the Carrera Body? I have check with Carrera and they don't sell the GT3RSR body by itself.

Thanks

Re: 2011 flying lizard porsches

Sam01contact - I just ordered a GT3R RSR slot car body from Germany. It isn't the Carerra version but I wanted to know where did you get the ProFil 24 decals??? did you get them from ProFil 24?? can you send me the internet link for ordering the decals you have? I ordered a set of each car #80 and #81 from decaldoc "Frank" in Germany. I will be interested in watching your WIP - John

Re: 2011 flying lizard porsches

I will be watching this closely. I just bought a Fujimi GT3R kit and Carrera RSR body. I also contacted Profil24 to see if they would sell their decal set separately.

Are you building both? I may eventually, but I am going to build the blue #81 first.

I bought the carrera bodies in ebay (germany):

Ask the seller about shipping prices to the U.S. I had no problem whatsoever.

I ordered 2 kits directly from Profil24. I asked if they sell separate sheets...they said no

By the way, I sent today a mail to Scale Motorsport asking if they are still doing a transkit to do the Lizards. I hope to have their answer very soon.

Re: 2011 flying lizard porsches

Looks like a great start. A rather expensive one too (2 Profil24 + 2 Fujimi + 1 Carrera = 2 Flying lizards). I will certainly keep my eyes on this one.

Did I miss your Murcielago GT-R thread somewhere?

Re: 2011 flying lizard porsches

I got the slot Carrera GT3R RSR body from eBay Germany - there was a link posted above and I went there and bid on the auction and won - shipping was 15 euros but the body was only 22 euros so it only cost about $47-48 USD - it is worth the look and comparison to determine which body to use on the build - Gt3R RSR or modify the GT3R Fujimi. I also ordered a set of each number #80 and #81 from Patto's Place in Australia, but I need to determine which body will fit his decals best. - John

Do you have those decals yet? If so how is the quality? I don't really like that they are full body decals. I have heard that the Decal Doc ones aren't the best quality and Profil24 won't sell the decal sheet separately. Not sure which ones to get.

..also cause profil decals will not fit on carrera slot body. Too different bodyshape, seems even in different scale.

Jedi - I have a set of the Patto's Place decals and the quality is good, but mine were damaged in the shipping - they were stuck together and the decal tore when I tried to separate the two sheets (#80 & # 81) - I contacted Patto about it and he said he will send replacement decals free of charge, but I am waiting to get the Carrera GT3 RSR slot body so I can check for fitment before I have him send another set. Patto said he could adjust the size of the decal to fit if I know how much. Pattos' decals are very nice in my opinion and he offers excellent service - I am still awaiting the decals from Frank at decal.doc - they only just shipped. It would be nice if Profil24 would sell the decals, but then they wouldn't sell the resin kits - they're very expensive. I figure between the Patto's decals and the decaldoc decals I will get it to work just fine. I believe "Sam01Contact" said he emailed Matt at SMS to see if they were going to do Flying Lizard also.

I beg to differ...The Profil24 decals will fit in the Carrera body. The GT3R nose is wider than the RSRīs, but since the Profil24 decals are not full body decals, little adjustments can be made.
