Where should I set my boost?

I've had my Tsi for about a week now and I've noticed that when I floor it, my boost gauge reads 17-18psi. I know that is way too high and prolly the reason why my gas mileage has been so horrible. What is the stock setting for a Talon, I've always heard of cars running 6-7psi daily driven, what do you guys think?

Your boost will be ok up to 14psi then your going to need a new waste gate then u nothing over 18psi will be safe unless u do somethings to the motor

Re: Where should I set my boost?

and if your not on the gas so much your miles per gallon will be a lot better. for stock turbo i would go over 14psi but 9psi is what they do run at.

Re: Where should I set my boost?

i take it yours is a 97? Stock on a t-25 is 12 psi.
But you can make stock run 16 psi max without burning it up

Yea, mine is a 97 Tsi FWD...I've been watching it carefully these past 2 days and it doesn't hit over 18 psi. The car sounds great when it's running, the turbo spools fine, so it doesn't seem like anything is going wrong. But you guys think I don't have too much to worry about, especially since don't drive it hard very often?

Re: Where should I set my boost?

I also found that my boost gauge is a cheap one, so I'm guessing there is some room for error on it's part to...

Re: Where should I set my boost?

not much yet , 3 inch exhaust from turbo back, cold air intake,1g blow off valve, boost control, boost guage, aftermarket upper inner cooler pipe,
thats about it besides wires and stuff.
