Question When should full boost be?

I dont have my first car yet...and i have never drove a turbo'd car.My sister has a Bonneville SSEI Supercharged and one F350 and one F450 (turbo'd truck's for thos of you who dont know that). But i never have driven a turbo'd car.So my question is when should full boost be at on a 95-99 GST/GSX?Like what RPM?Also...lets say i have a boost controller.I have it set at 20 PSI...when will i hit 20 psi?I'm going to try to find a GST/GSX tomorrow and test drive one.But if you could help me under stand how it works that would be awsome.

Re: When should full boost be?

Depends on the turbo, but stock T25 is definately before 3000rpm's. 20psi will come almost as quickly, but it isn't recommended to run 20psi on the stock turbo due to reliability.

Re: When should full boost be?

What about a T3/T4?Or a 20G?

The reason why i'm asking is cause my dad doesn't see why i wait so much power...he says i wont use it or get up to that high of psi...the only time i will is like..."5 times a year".Most of the time when i shift its at 5000 to 6000 RPM on cars.

Re: When should full boost be?

There are many different T3/T4 turbos, and a few different 20g's. The scale would be peak boost at 2800rpm on a small turbo, like stock... to a serious turbo that spools at or past 4000rpm.

Anyway don't worry about spool-up unless you really plan on running 300whp+. A 14b or 16g will spool reasonable fast, and have enough power for most street cars. 3300-3500rpm as an estimate. If you were racing, you would not be shifting very early at all. Obviously you would carry out the RPM's to 6000 at least, so spool is way way way before then.

Sorry 'bout bringing this post up from the bottom but, i just wanted to say...if you were to shift at 5 or 6k RPMs in a GST or GSX, your gonna be goin' way way too fast for pulling out of anywhere.(ex. your grandmas house, in a funeral, or out of the DMV after your third ticket.)
So take it easy on the ol' 'bishi man. But good luck finding one, hope it works out for ya.
