has anyone modified a d16y5 engine (vtec-e)? I talked with a local shop about a swap but the guy told me he recently built one around 380 hp. and to keep my y5. he showed me pics of the car, show quality. but is he feeding me a line?

if the d16y5 is anything like the 92-95 d15z1 VTEC-e, then it runs in 12 valve mode until "VTEC", at which it switches to 16b valve mode. If so, by simply running the VTEC solenoid open all time, you have a standard d16 16v SOHC engine which can be modded like any other.
