The 124.133 300D TURBO was only imported one year:1987. After they were recalled to replace the trap oxidizer, the horsepower jumped to 148. It was the fastest diesel ever brought to the U.S. The car is sought out because of the tank-like feeling and comfortable cruising. Mileage is usually between 30-35mpg. The 603 engine was unique because unlike the earlier engines which were four and five cylinder, this was a six that was turbocharged. They are extremely reliable and MBUS feels that they won't require engine work for 400K miles! Most came with scary color combinations and most have been abused. At this age they require upper rear strut link upgrade, new Bilsteins, front sway bar bushings, and vacuum pump replacement. With fuel prices rising, this turbodiesel is in demand more than ever.
